For all those dirty minds out there, this image shows the hand job sprayer (as opposed to motor driven biggrin.png ) I was referring to in post #3932 .For those that haven't seen one,the nozzle can be seen extending over the right shoulder and the lever for the pump can be seen over the left shoulder. This type of sprayer can be used to limit the chance of over spray such as which affected my cha-om crop.

Why is it pink shaggy (total noob question I know)?

That's an easy one....because it's pretty.

Tell you the truth scunner it was a new one for me also, mostly have only seen red and brown sealant paints.

Ahh okay, so they make a cut, strip off some bark and then seal most of it up to make the latex flow in a more concentrated stream into the collection cup?

Btw hope all you fine folk on this thread aren't too exposed to all this coup nonsense going on, stay safe!

Thanks for the concern scunner , I do believe that that paint patch is more for the protection of the tree , being for the combat of intrusion of disease .

Yup,Goomps just about covered it there.Just think of it as a giant plaster/band aid for a tree.

Scunner,They start off with one small cut to get the sap flowing, after some time the tree starts to try and heal itself and stop the flow of rubber.

When this happens the farmer goes over the original cut with a knife (photo below)in a kind of scraping action, kinda like pulling the scab off

a wound before the wound is fully healed allowing the rubber to ooze out again.

The cuts on the trees look one big cut,but they are a result of a series of many many little ones.

Thanks for explanation goompa and shaggy, hope that I didn't sound too much like the small kid with the "why" questions :D

Too true, the mark of genius isn't how much you know, it's the realisation of how little you do know :)

As I say to the newbies at work, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Well then I am a true " GENIUS " , cause I know frig -all cheesy.gif

Hey , don't have to believe me , just ask anyone on this thread , they will tell you !giggle.gif

Another bug's-eye view.

Well DAL.....didn't expect to see that if the truth was known.

A very nice perspective photo, although when I saw it I felt a bit of a cold shiver.

It kind of gave me the feeling that someone was going to throw a shovel of dirt over me.

Maybe the shallow grave feeling....creepy but very good.

Here's some thing from more ground level just to stop the feeling of claustrophobia.

Thanks for your warm cassavae, Shaggy. Thanks for telling me what you felt about my dirt. I like that. Frankly, I hoped you wouldn't notice the cold.

I like the subtle white light spots that are highlighted on top of the leaves spread out over the field which added extra natural contrast.

Your sunbeam seems small and insignificant but It was the first part of the picture I was attracted to.

I often run into farmers in the forest that are taking a bit of time off to hunt birds. This fellow was superbly equipped with a flintlock long rifle he built himself and a handsome decoy chicken.
