watcharacters
I happened to see a movie last night where a fellow was using a drill to spin back the reading on a cars odometer. Got me to thinking. Is that a likely occurrence in LOS by new or used car dealers? It's pretty serious where I come from but I realize it may be accepted as the norm here. Caviet Emptor. I know. What do you think? Is it a likely and easy thing to do here?
Briggsy
I have heard that it is a fairly standard practice by most second-hand car dealers. Then again, it could be an urban myth.

BSJ
Using an electric drill! What is this, 1965?
sotsira
Most modern cars don't have odometers with mechanical dials, but if they do, it would be much easier to dismantle the dials and reset them at the required mileage than use an electric drill which would take a very long time. The modern digital display odometers though can be reset to another figure by using a certain software and computer connected to the vehicle's electrical system. Im sure that most s/h car dealers in Thailand would have the ability and knowhow to achieve this relatively easy task if they wished to do so, or have a contact with the right computer knowledge to do it for them. The reputable main dealers though i would say would not do this as they deal with new or nearly new cars with relatively low mileage anyway. stevenl
IMO this happens in Thailand, just as it happens in most countries, but is not widespread.
watcharacters
Thanks all, As I said I happened to see this in a film on youtube and it got me to thinking. It was merely a question and one I know can't be definitely answered for all cases and all conditions. It just got me concerned to a degree. I know the cash I'll be giving to a dealer will be good and I hope the same is true about what I buy. And yes, I have no idea when the film was made.
