Australia Offers Indonesia Schapelle Corby Parole Guarantees

If she is paroled, she will be required to stay in Bali for approx 4 years and who is going to pay for her stay, the Australian Tax Payer? If the Australian Government is putting itself up as a garantor then they will have to organise housing and a means of support.

Her sister Mercedes, the white trashy one, lives in Bali and I believe previously gave an undertaking that she would take care of her.

The govt goes to this extent for a convicted drug trafficker but does sweet FA for a person that hasn't even been charged with anything.

isn't this raciest...."the white trashy one "

I see on the news tonight, her sister Mercedes has been bashed in Bali.

Mercedes Indonesian husband also just admitted that he and Mercedes have now split up.

No guarantee she will be staying with him and Mercedes now.

The lies of parole will now all come out.

The sister of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby has been assaulted in Bali.

Mercedes Corby is in Kasih Ibu (Mother Love) Hospital, staff have confirmed to AAP.

Let her do her full time. A new election in September and the Liberals will be in power and all will be forgotten. Corby who? Who cares anyway, she was a drug trafficker who got caught in a country who have laws and rules.

Obviously an election year. Government offering the guarrantee to help garner support amongst the bogan vote.

Considering Ned Kelly is the biggest folk hero in the country's history, it'll likely work too whistling.gif

He's not, really . . . well, only for the clubfooters (Irish-Catholics).

We have other brilliant examples like Breaker Morant and Bob Hawke - because he still holds the Oxford record for downing a beer

Yup, classy lot we are!

Love that every time an Australian is convicted of doing something overseas they start bleating that the government is not doing enough for them. Well, maybe if you didn't get in trouble in the first place then they wouldn't have to. And why should they anyway, it's not the laws of Australia that have been broken or that there is some kind of human rights violation. Oh, I know what some people, especially Corby's family will say, that someone else put the drugs there. Strange that people who support her have nothing to say when it's pointed out anyone can say that. And reasonable doubt does not mean that there is a chance, however laughable, that some unnamed person may be responsible.

Too bad she wasn't going to Malaysia. This would have all been forgotten by now.

I really don't see anyone here defending her, quite the opposite. In any event the govt is actually SUPPOSED to support any of its citizens overseas regardless of what they did. Just that it annoys many aussies they jump through hoops to help a convicted drug courier but leave others such as Assange and David Hicks to rot.

There is speculation, quite justified, that it was in fact her brother that had the weed and she just grabbed the bodyboard bag as it was all part of the same luggage. The brother is a real scumbag. Also mentioned that the father was of the same type so could have been the father and brother involved.

If that is true then they are the lowest of low to allow one of their family to take the fall for them. The father is dead now anyway. But the brother is really a piece of shit.

I would agree with everything you say here except " In any event the govt is actually SUPPOSED to support any of its citizens overseas regardless of what they did." In my humble opinion our Gov't should keep their noses out of this case. Why offer guarantee?

What if she breaks the parole? Especially if as you say it's in the family? And regarding to what she did wouldn't it have been Aus Gov't duty to lock her up just as Balinese did? blink.png

Article in the Sydney Morning Herald today.

New hope for Schapelle Corby

Date May 15, 2013

Indonesia’s president has significantly boosted Schapelle Corby’s chance of parole by apparently clearing away the biggest remaining hurdle — her immigration status.

A new regulation signed on April 16 but still poorly understood in Indonesia, means Corby’s lawyers can go ahead and lodge the convicted cannabis smuggler’s parole application.

They have been delaying because of worries that the immigration department would not allow her to serve out her sentence while living with sister Mercedes and brother-in-law Wayan Widyartha in Bali.

Her sentence does not end until 2017.

A further update on the COrby clan

Corby family suffers court blow over book defamation claims

The defamation action brought by Schapelle Corby's family against a book publisher has been dealt a blow in the NSW Supreme Court, with her brother's case dismissed and her sister's claims narrowed.

Corby's sister, Mercedes Corby, her brother, Michael Corby Jnr, and her mother, Rosleigh Rose, launched defamation proceedings last year against publishers Allen & Unwin over the book Sins of the Father, written by Fairfax journalist Eamonn Duff.

The family claimed the book contained several defamatory imputations, including that they were part of a drug syndicate run by Corby's father, Mick Corby, according to court documents.

What the frack happened to Oz. All a sudden, the country of the real good bloke has gone all PC and pathetic.

Leave her to rot in jail- she knew it was crime in Indonesia and still did it. Better still, death penalty and save the taxpayer money. No sympathy for drug dealers.
