Crime Grandson with Amputated Limbs Stabs Grandfather in Loei
Picture courtesy of SiamNews. A man with two amputated limbs confessed to brutally stabbing his elderly grandfather to death in a fit of rage during a mealtime dispute at their family home in Loei province. Police were alerted to the fatal incident at approximately 11:00, on 4 July, at a two-storey half-concrete, half-wooden house in Na O subdistrict, Mueang Loei district. Officers from Mueang Loei Police Station, forensic investigators, hospital staff and local rescue volunteers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the body of Mr. Sanan 86, slumped face-down over a bowl of rice at the kitchen dining table. He had sustained seven stab wounds to the neck and back. A 10-inch pointed kitchen knife was found on the table near the body. The suspect, identified as Mr. Weerasak Sripimpa 35, the victim’s grandson, was found seated nearby, calmly waiting to surrender to police. Notably, Weerasak has had his left arm and right leg amputated due to a previous electrical contact incident. During questioning, Weerasak told police that he had long endured his grandfather’s persistent nagging and repeated references to the past, which had worn down his patience. On the morning of the incident, after preparing grilled fish for his grandfather’s meal, another round of complaints pushed him over the edge. Unable to contain his anger, Weerasak said he retrieved a knife from the kitchen and approached his grandfather from behind before stabbing him repeatedly. After realising the gravity of his actions, he reportedly paced back and forth, then called the police to confess. Following a preliminary examination by medical officials, Mr. Sanan’s body was transferred to Loei Hospital for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Mr. Weerasak was taken into custody for further questioning and has been charged with the murder. The investigation is ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamNews 2025-07-05 -

Crime Gibbons Smuggled from Bangkok Seized at India's Chennai Airport
Picture of Chennai Airport courtesy of The Hindu via The Thaiger Chennai Airport has emerged as a hotspot in a baffling wildlife trafficking plot, as customs officers apprehended a passenger attempting to smuggle two endangered gibbons from Bangkok. This marks the second attempt in just two weeks, raising alarms over a possible surge in black market demand. The passenger landed on a Thai Airways flight early on Tuesday, 1st July. Customs officials, suspicious of his movements, decided to inspect his luggage. A shocking discovery awaited them: two live gibbons concealed in pet carriers, hidden under layers of chocolates and packaged foods. "In one carrier, we found an Agile Gibbon, and in another, an Eastern Grey Gibbon," revealed a customs officer. "Despite the careful concealment, our profiling systems proved effective in uncovering them." These species are highly coveted in the illegal exotic pet market, prompting immediate action from India’s wildlife bureau, which stepped in to confirm their identity and ensure their safety. The Agile Gibbon, a victim of habitat loss and poaching, holds an endangered status on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. The Eastern Grey Gibbon faces similar threats, making their capture especially concerning for conservationists. The suspect, believed to be a minor player in a sophisticated international smuggling ring, is now in judicial custody. Investigators are diligently working to unearth the bigger network orchestrating these crimes. "This repeated targeting of the same gibbon species in a short span hints at a burgeoning, specialised demand," a customs spokesperson stated. India has seen a spike in wildlife trafficking cases, with stringent measures being put in place at major airports to combat this illicit trade. Such trafficking not only endangers species but also breaches international conventions aimed at protecting wildlife. As authorities tighten their nets around the perpetrators, the case underscores a dire need for global cooperation to curb wildlife trafficking. Legal frameworks and enforcement must be strengthened to deter such exploits, which pose a grave threat to biodiversity. The recent arrest in Chennai highlights a larger, more disturbing trend in the illegal wildlife trade. While this operation was foiled, experts caution that the underworld market for exotic pets remains robust. Immigration and customs officials are keen on sending a strong message to deter future attempts. Meanwhile, both the Agile Gibbon and the Eastern Grey Gibbon wait in the care of wildlife authorities, a grim testament to the ongoing battle against wildlife crime. Accident Two Killed, One Critically Injured After Pickup Truck Struck by Speeding Vehicle
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Two people were killed and another seriously injured after aroad crash involving two pickup trucks near a U-turn point in Sam Roi Yot district on the evening of 3 July. The suspected driver responsible for the crash fled the scene, leaving behind a bumper with a licence plate. The crash occurred around 18:00 on Phetkasem Road, southbound, near the Silaloi U-turn in Moo 1, Silaloi subdistrict. Police and emergency responders from the Sawang Methithammasathan Foundation rushed to the scene. Officers found the body of an 18-year-old male farm worker, later identified as Mr Natthapoom, lying on the road in a pool of blood, dressed in blue farm attire. Nearby, under a truck waiting to make a U-turn, rescuers discovered two more victims, one dead, 53-year-old Ms Sroi and another Ms Prathum 54, unconscious and critically injured. All had been riding in the back of a blue Nissan pickup truck with a cage rack carrying farming equipment, including a water tank and pesticide sprayers. The driver of the Nissan, Mr Pranom, 43 and his wife, Ms Wasana, 47, who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries. According to witnesses and preliminary investigations, the Nissan had just left a farm in Pran Buri and was on its way to the couple’s home in Kui Buri. As they reached the U-turn, a black Toyota Vigo pickup truck suddenly swerved from the left lane and clipped the side of the Nissan. The impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control, flinging three farm workers from the rear cargo bed. The black pickup truck then fled the scene at speed, driving the wrong way against traffic to escape. A nearby restaurant owner, who witnessed the collision, described hearing a loud crash followed by bodies being thrown from the vehicle. “I didn’t dare go close, but I could see clearly from the front of my shop,” she told reporters. Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the area. It confirmed that the Nissan was travelling in the right-hand lane when the black four-door pickup attempted to overtake from the left, sideswiping the vehicle and causing it to spin. The black vehicle came to a stop about 20 metres past the U-turn before fleeing, leaving behind a detached front bumper and licence plate, now key evidence in the investigation. Authorities have taken custody of the bumper and registration plate and are working to identify and locate the driver of the fleeing vehicle. Legal proceedings are expected to follow once the suspect is apprehended. The injured survivor remains in critical condition at Sam Roi Yot Hospital. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-07-05
