Help With Suggestions For Compaq F700 Laptop Display Problems

Hello,

I'll put a picture of my display. This just happened suddenly. Could it possibly be a setting, or time for a new laptop? If you can't see in the picture, about the top 15% of the display is still functioning perfectly.

I am running windows vista home premium.

Hope I gave enough information.

Thanks for any help.

Yep, the LCD screen is kaput. If you're using it only at home, buy a LCD monitor and your problem is solved. It's too expensive to replace the screen compared to buying a new laptop.

If you're travelling around with it, its time to buy a new laptop. Depending on your needs; internet, watching videos and some typing you can pick up a fairly decent one for less than 15,000 baht.

Identical vertical lines all over the LCD screen as soon as it is turned on:

These lines can be red, blue, or white and may appear as fine lines or wider bands. They are usually due to a faulty ribbon that connects the LCD panel internally.

Thanks guys. I can just barely read the screen on this one right now. What I'll probably do is pick up another laptop, and use this one as a dedicated torrenting machine. May have been a blessing in disguise.

Good move. Get an new laptop, preferably with an Intel ivy bridge quad-core processor, and 4Gb RAM.

When you are feeling rich, upgrade RAM to 8Gb (should only cost ~ 700B), and purchase a solid state drive (ssd).

Can buy a small ssd, and store stuff on external drives.

Keep the old comp. as a music player, pod downloader etc.

Well, that is my approach to a dud screen. Cheers, AA

Seems like you didn't understand me. Just get the ribbon changed and ignore the silliness about Ivy Bridge processors and SSDs.

Sure you can buy the latest and the greatest, but do you actually need it?

It actually just started spontaneously working again. Weird. I'm sure it will go back out? It went out right when I closed a VLC video..... it seemed like hardware to me though, but I aint no expert.
