Money From Uk To Chiang Mai

Hey Beans,

Looking to send some monies from the UK to Chiang Mai and wondered if you had any ideas? The amount will likely be a couple of hundred pounds. I've had a look on the forum but mostly it seems people talking about big monies or sending to BKK etc.

(the safer bet would be a simple 'swift' transfer from your uk bank to ANY bank in Thailand - will cost you 20 quid + the amount)

Put the money in my UK bank account and I will transfer the Baht equivalent to any nominated Thai bank account.

If you have a Visa card with the London Bank you can just go into any bank here and use it to get the money.

The pigeon is cheaper though

It will cost approximately £25 to transfer the money through a bank, maybe a little less using Western Union. The cheapest method is use an Aeon ATM if you have a credit or debit card. There is a machine in Siam TV.

for a couple of hundred pounds use a debit/or credit card if you have one

minimum to send by wire is 25 pounds plus a 12.50 handling charge on the thai side

Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions. Just checked Western Union and to transfer £200 into a Thai bank account is only £6.90. This seems quite reasonable unless the Thai banks take a cut at their end! Plus there are plenty of western Union points around the city.

The idea of transferring it to a UK bank of someone with a Thai bank account also sounds like a good idea as it may also help them out in transferring money back home.

For what its worth I have Halifax Internet banking, and a Kasikorn account here.

I transfer usually 2k GBP at a time. Cost from Halifax is 9.5 GBP.

Money in Thai a/c normally within 2 working days.
