ไม่ and ไหม่

Hi,

I am having a problem with this.

Can someone summarize when each is used?

I know when I am saying no it is just ไม่

but when asking a question do you end with ไหม่ or ไม่ ?

Like ชอบน้ำส้มไม่ครับ or is it ไหม่ครับ ?

How about chai-mai?

would it be ใช่ไม่ or ใช่ไหม่ ?

Thanks for any tips smile.png

ไหม่ has a low tone and means 'new'

Only if its's spelled as ใหม่ wink.png

Sorry, you've confused me a bit there.

Isn't that how I spelt it? smile.png

Look carefully bifftastic. Two different vowels (but both pronounced the same - ai)

ไหม่ ใหม่

ไหม has a rising tone and is the 'question word'

ไหม is irregular: though written with a rising tone, in normal speech it's pronounced with a high tone; only in the most formal of situations is it pronounced rising.
