70 blacklisted rice mills allegedly in Thai rice pledge scheme

The real news here is that Thailand actually blacklisted something - that's pretty incredible. I've been to a port in Paknam (Samut Prakarn province) late at night and seen the way they just throw fish on the ground, I've seen more un-serviced trucks belching black smoke than I can remember and everywhere I go there's dilapidated buildings. There can't be any legitimate grounds for blacklisting a warehouse, the owners must have fallen behind on their tea money payments.

Seventy-seven blacklisted rice mills were permitted to participate in the government's rice pledging scheme, it was disclosed by a House special committee considering the 2014 budget bill.

Ah of course its the fake rice mills that are causing all the problems

Almost everyone and organisation in the rice business is corrupt ranging from the Rice Farmer up. The rice farmer's gains from corruption is thought to be minimal and for the most part seek to nullify the fraud of the Rice Mills. It is beween the mill and the wharehousing that serious corruption takes place. If polititions participate in wharehousing of rice or it milling, it should be easy to discover sicne they will have registered so when elected.

The issue of corruption blights all of the Wharehousing systems in Thailand including. Sugar, Palm Oil, Cassava, Rubber.

If this matrix of corruption is organised by politcians in government or in opposition or if in unellected time-out, such corruption must be defended by their benifacors. Who are the benifactors (defenders)? They cannot be from one party. The benefactors may extend through all Hi-So organisations and people. Could the invisable man be an issue here?

Would this be the case corruption would continue into the future unless the government of the day beat it out of the system. That no doubt lead to many contract killings and years of increased instability.

One thing for sure is that the Red Shirts cannot be responsible for such an organised rape of goverment agri-resources. This is simply because they have not been in government before and there cannot have contributed to such a carefully organised crime system or such a nationwide wide conspiracy.

That the Red Shirts might be benefactors now, that a goverment that is sensitive to their expectations is in power, is also a possibility.

Every market is subject to price collusion and an lack of power on the part of the farmers.

It's a buying cartel, simple as that.

They were blacklisted before this current system. They must be the most corrupt of the corrupt. How corrupt must you be to get banned in Thailand.

Probably the employees don't even take their wallets to work.

Disagree!!

Price collusion isn't endemic where true or 'real' market competition exists. Cartels, of course, are a different matter as they are built on collusion (even though it is technically illegal and morally corrupt).

By now they should have opened the market to 100% foreign companies to give farmers more buyers to sell to.

But no, farangs would scree the farmers mite than these buggars...... Interesting logic.

In Thailand the word logic doesn't seem to exist!!!

"The banks/countries about to go bust always offer the highest interest rates.
Iceland, Cyprus, etc.
Thailand is next on the list (maybe Australia too)".....................

The difference between Australia and the USA is - Australia trades with China, the USA belongs to China. You better hope they don't ask for the money you owe them, or you will be adding the USA to that little list of yours.
