Where to Have my PC Re-Formatted Properly

Hallo,

Does anyone know a decent place to get my PC done.

I've used a place at Central Bang Na and Seacon Square but the same problems keep coming back.

I know Pantip is the mecca for this type of stuff, but would not have a clue which shop to go to.

Someone said the problem seems to come from torrents and I need to make sure all the magnets need to be removed along with the reformatting.

Any ideas as to where, please?

Thanks.

Sorry, this is a bit bogus. magnetic links are file associations.Something like : File (right click) open with (choose) foobar (always open with)

These things do not mess up your computer. Please start with the problem you are experiencing.

Formatting your computer is a piece of cake. Can you not do it yourself?

Agreed, nearly every computer shop uses the same type of installation DVD, a cracked copy of Windows 7 bundled with a load of junk programs that aren't needed.

For the everyday type stuff - internet, a bit of word processing etc I'd recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon. Free to download and it comes bundled with all the software you could want.

Easy to install and less likely to get infected with viruses as well.

There's a ton of websites with clear instructions for installing this. I find the questions I have about little problems are clearly answered on the forums compared to Windows forums.

One annoyance for me is that Linux isn't any good at reading camera SD cards though, the camera needs to be plugged into the USB port to upload photos to the computer.

Assuming you want to totally wipe clean your PC's hard drive,

such that any subsequent investigations are unable to retrieve anything,

these are the steps a professional service (or a knowing friend) would undertake:

Remove your hard drive, place it in an enclosure (ie. box for external hard drive).

If your friend is using windows, format the external drive.

Then use ccleaner program and tick 'wipe free space' (or somesuch) option.

If your friend is using linux, format the external drive as NTFS.

Then run bleachbit with 'wipe free space' option.

Cheers, AA

I am not sure about your SD card issue, but I use Mint, and used Ubuntu for many years before that (before they ruined it with the Unity interface). I have never had any problems reading SD cards. You should probably try a different card reader (I use a simple plug in USB one).

For someone not confident of formatting or re-installing Windows then could be a bit of a stretch going over to Linux.

If the OP is using a non original version of Windows then another Panthip version is only going to be a short term solution so better off buying the real thing and installing yourself. Plenty of tutorials available on-line to walk you through it all. It does take a bit of work, maybe an afternoon of your time, as you need to do some preparation like backing up your data, downloading drivers and installing programs and updates but it's all worthwhile.

With torrents I don't know why magnets would be a problem. If there's a problem with a torrent then sometimes you just have give up and delete it from within the torrent client. With standard mp4 or mkv torrents I've never had a problem, with my torent client set to run a virus scan on each new torrent downloaded.

Thanks all.Tried a guy on crailgslist who actually destroyed my mc. Stay away from charlaltans promising a cheap, effective service. Seems he's operating under 2 separate names there. So stay away from ks and Rs

Cheap solutions to computer problems is his theme. Beware, and tell yer friends..

A mate got it going again, but youtube tunes stop after a few seconds,

Any ideas why?

Perhaps you should have listened to the advice given as early as post #3. You could have been given a tutorial to get things going for yourself. Therefore not having to depend on useless crooks.

Let that be a lesson to you.

Now, tell us something about the specifications of your system. Brand name and model number. Which Operating System version. How much memory is installed.

Time to educate yourself with at least the basics.
