chiangrai
I've been downloading videos from the net for about a year and have had no problems until about a month ago. I download with INTERNET DOWNLOAD MANAGER and play with POTPLAYER. It always seems to be mp4 files that I can't play. I tried downloading a codex for Potplayer and for windows media player but it didn't work. Then I downloaded FINAL MEDIA PLAYER and it plays the video but has no sound. greatful for any help thank you

edwardandtubs
VLC player is my best friend, my boss and my lover.
sumrit
Agree, VLC plays everything. I've got it as my default player. As a backup you could also download Media Player Classic (not to be confused with Media Player) http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/
chiangrai
O.K, I've tried everything,Vlc won't play the MP4 filles either. Could it be something with INTERNET DOWNLOAD MANAGER. I've been using the free version for years maybe they've changed something
verywierd
Sounds like a codec conflict or bad codec. Suggest you uninstall any codecs or codec packages you have and then install the freeware codec ffdshow (just Goggle it). "ffdshow is DirectShow and VFW codec for decoding/encoding many video and audio formats, including DivX and XviD movies using libavcodec, xvid and other opensourced libraries with a rich set of postprocessing filters." libavcodec is what VLC and most of the other players and converters use. I have Potplayer too and I play mostly mp4 and wmv vids from all manner of sources with no problem.
