My Wife is looking to Enrol on an ESOL Course at West Herts College this afternoon in order to apply for ILR in August 2014 and meet the new? language requirement (oct 13).

I have looked at Home offices Appendix O with regard to approved courses and only 1 City & Guilds IESOL course is listed.

The West Herts College have many ESOL courses entry 1,2 and an entry 3 course with Citizenship (which is the course we were keen on) as well as a fast track ESOL and an IESOL however all are listed as City & Guilds courses and I cannot see them on the UKBA's Appendix O as an approved course.

The assessment / enrolment is at 3pm today so i have asked the question to the college but thought I would ask this specific question to the forum as many of you may have researched this given the imminent language requirement changes, and I fear the admissions team may not have the answer to hand.

Not sure it makes a difference but my Wife applied for her spouse Visa on the 6th July 2012 before those other changes.

If anyone could clarify if the C&G ESOL entry 3 with Citizenship course is an acceptable course for ILR, prior to 3pm today I would really appreciate that.

Or if anyone has a recommendation of a course to abide by the new language requirements (post October 2013) in the hertfordshire / harrow area - that would be appreciated as well.

City and Guilds are an approved provider (see page 20 of this list), but she must obtain at least level B1 in speaking and listening.

The college will know if they are an accredited educational establishment.

Remember that she will need to pass the LitUK test as well.

Thanks 7 x 7 as usual for your concise and swift response.

In the end they would only allow her on Entry Level 2 as her speaking and listening assessment was entry 3 but they assessed her reading writing at entry 1/2 so could only give 2.

She may do the course anyway just for improvement reasons (if they agree to treat her as a home student in respect of fees) but will probably go to Trinity college London to do the B1 Speaking & Listening exam as that seems wholly geared towards ILR / Naturalisation purposes.

Thanks
