Get 10GB of Google storage free for the next 2 years

Google is adding 10GB of free storage to your Google Drive account when you log into your Google account with the new Google Quickoffice before September 26, 2013. The official statement can be found here.

Here's our you can get your free 10GB storage:

- Get the Google Quickoffice app from the app store.
- Run the app after installing it.
- Log into your Google Account and you'll get the 10GB extra storage.
- You can log into your other Google accounts by tapping on the profile picture and then "Change Account" and log into the other accounts one by one.

Now for some caveats. Google says the "extra 10GB of Google Drive storage will be added to your account for two years (look for it in the next few weeks)." The question here is, will Google offer the extra storage for company accounts hosted by Google? It's going to be hard to say given the additional storage will only be added over the next few weeks. But Google does differentiate between Google accounts and corporate Google accounts. Personal @gmail.com accounts are called 'Google Accounts' while your company's Google hosted accounts are called 'Google Apps Accounts'.

Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to try. Do it soon if you don't want to miss out on 10GB of extra storage in your Google Drive account.

It's closer to $20 per year.

I agree though. There is a privacy impact unless you encrypt your (Google) drive.

Regarding the 'trusty' external 1.0 Tb drive. Say that again in 3 years, especially if it's Seagate.

Don't have it as the only thing in your backlup arsenal. Have another copy somewhere.

Re the external drive, get the manufacturers testing software and run it every 6 months.

Store with google and have all your information mined by the NSA. No thanks.

Actually Google are only part of the problem. NSA are into everything, and can I assure you, not all of it is off system.

So, while google is incredibly simple as a target, your pc is as much a target if you are of interest.

So it appears that a lot of the conspiracy theorists were right all along.

Take your megatera gigabyte hard drive to immigration. Then show your paper work...hahahaha. If you really have that much personal, all life consuming, information in digital format then I would have to question your bona fides in the real world. When I employ someone I want to see paper work, references etc that are traceable and verifiable. I realise a print out can do this but there is nothing better than a genuine 5 or 10 year old piece of paper hand signed by a referee. It could be out of date and the referee could have died but it brings something genuine to the deal in my opinion. Can all be checked anyway.

The question is, why the hell would you want to store personal documents online when you know the US government will be able to store and look at every one of them ?!!? Big brother is already watching, using this service would just make it even easier for them. Same goes for the so called 'cloud', I refuse to go near it...

Just out of curiosity, what "documents" do you think you're hiding from them?

Your bank statements? Uhmmm....uh huh, they definitely don't already have those :)

Medical documents that are already stored in centralized hospital and doctors systems? Yeah, surely THOSE are safe from the NSA.

Your emails? Uhm....

*Maybe* some pictures....but who cares about those? Seriously.

The great novel your working on?

I'm not trying to pick on you in particular....but just want to point out that anything of any relevance is ALREADY out there. No one cares about blurry selfie pictures, or your porn. Not to say someone doesn't care...and you should practice good security....just not the NSA.

Thanks for the tip. Did what was told and now I seem to have 15GB space. Not sure if that's the original or new limit.

I'm still waiting Google to produce drive version for Linux as they long time ago said they would.
