Thai Airways To Raise Fuel Surcharge

BANGKOK: --Thai Airways International PCL (THAI.TH) will raise the fuel surcharge on its international flights, as jet fuel prices are approaching $90 a barrel, Bangkok Post reported, citing Vasing Kittikul, the flag carrier's executive vice president for commercial affairs.

Thai Airways may begin to increase the standard fuel surcharge, now at $25 for short-haul flights and $50 for intercontinental services, including those to Australia and New Zealand, in mid-May or early in June, the paper said.

The carrier has already decided to increase the fuel surcharge on flights to Japan to $35 from May 1, on par with the new rates imposed by Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airlines, according to Bangkok Post.

The airline has yet to decide on the new rates for other flights.
