Mae Sot Customs House intercepts smuggled goods

The Mae Sot Customs House intercepted and seized old motorcycles and carved teakwood, with a combined value of more than 400,000 baht.

Mr. Kritsada Tongthammachat (กฤษฎา ทองธรรมชาต), chief of the Mae Sot Customs House, conducted a press conference pertaining to a recent seizure of smuggled goods consisting of 7 pre-World War II motorcycles with parts, valued at 370,000 baht. The goods were intercepted and seized at a motorcycle repair shop belonging to Mr. Nisan Limjinda (นิสรร ลิ้มจินดา), in the Mae Sot Municipal area. Customs official also seized 134 planks of carved teakwood, valued at about 32,000 baht.

The Chief of the Mae Sot Customs House added that the Thai-Burmese border at Tak province is more than 500 kilometers long making border control difficult. Mr. Kritsada added that this factor, along with the strength of the Thai currency against the Burmese Kyat, has made smuggling rampant along the border area.
