BANGKOK, Jan 18 – The army has pressed police to take action against a Red Shirt activist who allegedly intimidated state officials and people.

Army deputy spokesman Winthai Suvaree said the behaviour of Wutthipong Kachathamkul, alias Ko Tee, has become a danger to security and should be dealt with legally.

He called on police to crack down on assailants who attacked protesters during daytime and nighttime and hunt for people behind the violence which has become widespread.

More than 30 people were injured as attackers hurled bombs at protesters led by leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Bantat Thong Road yesterday.

One of the rally sites on Chaeng Wattana Road was also attacked by Red Shirt activists yesterday. Ko Tee, a Pathum Thani resident, had reportedly announced that he would lead an attack on the Chaeng Wattana rally site.

Col Winthai said he believed police would take legal action against a group of people who intimidated the Nonthaburi governor with a harsh announcement that the protests by People’s Democratic Reform Committee must end in three days. (MCOT online news)

It is evident from what we have seen over the past few years that the army sides with the main man and the police with the man who would like to be the main man.

Army warns police to take action against troublemakers



BANGKOK: -- The army has warned a hard-core red shirt leader in Pathum Thani who led a group of red shirts to harass protesters and officials at Chaeng Wattana on Friday and urged the police to take legal action against him.

Colonel Winthai Suvaree, deputy spokesman of the army, said that the army could not accept the conduct of Wutthipong Kotthamkul, alias Koh Tee, hard-core red-shirt leader in Pathum Thani who led about 200 motorcyclists from Pathum Thani to harass protesters and officials at the Chaeng Wattana protest site of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee.

The red-shirt group, said Colonel Winthai, also main an unveiled threat that if the Bangkok Shutdown operation does not end in three days they would return to take actions against the protesters as well as officials deployed to provide security at the protest site and its close vicinity.

He questioned the police why the gang was allowed to flout with the law with impunity whereas the police did not take action against them.

Colonel Winthai also expressed concern over the violent incidents which took place in the past couple of days, including a violent incident today when a bomb was lobbed into a crowd of marching protesters on Banthadthong road led by Suthep Thaugsuban. Altogether 31 protesters were injured. Soldiers who later combed a block of deserted buildings at the crime scene where the bomb was believed to be thrown found a small cache of war weapons and ammunition as well as clothing at a deserted building.

Quite shocking really, you really would have thought the Army would be less obvious, but perhaps they are being obvious in order to show their hands are tied and they are being told to support the protestors ?

Students as part of the PDRC kill police officers and Army saying nothing and do nothing.

PDRC cut open locks, break down fences and gates and occupy government property and Army say nothing.

Students threaten to shut down air traffic control and Army say nothing.

Police use tear gas to stop protestors attacking government buildings and using picks ups and diggers to break down barriers, Army tells police not to use tear gas.

One leader of a faction of red shirts says they want to also protest in Bangkok, Army tells police to stop them.

The Army's statement is provocative. The statement is not neutral. If any violence, they should take responsibilities. Col Winthai should request the police to appeal to the group of people to exercise restraint and patience. They did not intimidate Nonthaburi governor, they are exercising their civil right to ask the governor to stop the PDRC's protesters who constantly uses threats and intimidation on people. The Army should ask the PDRC to stop doing that. They are not protesting peacefully, they are robbing other people's rights.

I agree..I find this issue hilarious....only in Thailand......How long has a warrant been out for his arrest?...the whole thing is a joke How can anyone take whats going on out here with any seriousness? all this is, is a good old fashion turf battle btween to rival gangs that hide behind the disquise of calling themselves politicians..and look at all the poor suckers/cattle that follow ignorantly along believing these morons...The only thing this country needs is a good enema

The NACC are just doing their job. Being elected is not an excuse for criminality, and it is well overdue for someone to arrest these criminals.

Until there is conclusive evidence either way, there is no point is engaging in the usual polemics. It was a fair question to ask - particularly as it would have been an utterly dumb move on the part of anyone on the pro-government side, only standing to benefit Suthep. Remarkable and possibly even predictable that the violence should kick off in earnest just as the demos are dwindling in size.

So I would say it would be 'intellectually dishonest' not to wonder why, just as the anti-government movement appears to be losing momentum, that such incidents should suddenly start to occur - as they can only aid Suthep's cause.

The army have told the police they cannot use tear gas, they cannot hurt any protestor in any way.

So how can the police do their job ? They are not allowed to arrest them and its impossible to arrest them as they will fight back and people will be hurt.

The police are saying to the army you said we cannot do anything, so we will not.

The army are saying the police you have to do something.

Tit for tat squabbling. If the army would shut up the police could do their job.

Which shows you why Thailand is in a mess, because you have an Army which cannot keep its hands out of politics, and until their is total reform of the Army and they are kept in barracks with mouths shut and only speak about external events where it is appropriate for the Army to speak about - Thailand will never ever be able to move forward.

And guess what, Suthep and his cronies do not want to reform the Army......................... lol..................they just want to reform everything else to make the army more powerful by removing the power of politicians, so you know who is on whose side very clearly.

2010 Siege BKK, the police disappeared -didn't prevent the red army amassing fortresses or travelling in thousands of buses from Issan.

Suppose the sorry state of the PM the army have to ASK the police to do their job.

That is not the point.

The Army previously stated that they do not want to take sides in the current situation but it will appear to many that they now have.

For the Army to complain about Red Shirts acting with impunity but to make no corresponding statement with regards to PDRCs lack of regard to the law is irresponsible at the very least.

It will understandably be viewed as a signal by both sides in this conflict and only helps to reinforce the view that the Army lack impartiality.
