webfact
Russian RDG-5 grenades in both blastsThe NationBANGKOK: -- Evidence found at the scene of bomb attacks on the anti-government protests in Banthad Thong Road and the Victory Monument on Friday and Sunday has revealed the type of explosive used.Experts say in both cases it was a Russian-made RDG-5 grenade, suggesting the attackers may be from the same group.RDG stands for Ruchnaya Granata Distantsionnaya in Russian or "Distance Hand Grenade" or "Time-delayed Hand Grenade" in English. It is a post-World War II Soviet anti-personnel fragmentation grenade and was in service by many Russian "client" countries.Local police have offered no other clue to the source of the bombs used in the attacks.Experts say it is not an easy explosive to use and only well-trained people can throw it safely as it goes off in four seconds after its pin is released. "Unless the thrower is well trained, the bomb could explode in the air and hurt him," an official said. The grenade can inflict injuries up to 15 metres from the site of the detonation. Victims caught within 3 metres of the blast site are almost certain to be severely wounded.-- The Nation 2014-01-

When the black shirts were operating in Bangkok in 2010 there were rumours they were ex Thai army based in Cambodia, being flown in and out for operations. I wouldn't be surprised to find the same thing here.

Popular Post Yunla
Doesn't really matter if the grenades are made in Lapland by Santa's Elves. This problem isn't related to the bombs or the paid stooges who throw the bombs, it is entirely the fault of the leaders from both sides, who put personal ambitions over the lives of their followers. Anybody could have told you back in November, that if Suthep stayed on the streets and escalated the overthrow movement, guns and bombs would join the equation sooner or later. It is a tinderbox situation and the actions he chose (however honourable or not) could only lead to these current tragedies.
Popular Post JRSoul
The grenade DOES NOT explode 4 secs after the pin is pulled. It explodes 4 secs after the fuse is ignited which occurs as the "spoon" lever is released. The level of expertise required for use is about the same as hitting someone with a stick.

Halion
This article is bullshit and it's intent is to mislead. All grenades are highly dangerous and once the pin is pulled it has no friends, however, the pin can be pulled and you can sit down and have a coffee if you have a mind to as long as you do not release the cocking lever(spoon). When it is thrown the spoon is automatically released and the grenade fusing system is activated initiating the time delay. A dangerous operation but far from difficult requiring only a basic understanding of the arming mechanism a good grip and a strong arm..The comment in the original article claiming that "experts" say that the thrower needs to be well trained is nonsense.

Popular Post MyFriend You
How hard can it be to throw a grenade 15 meters, when you have 4 sec. time... I think most peoples are able to do this! Straighten the pin first good grip on grenade and safety lever, pull pin out slowly throw it as far as you can and run like hell John Wayne never threw a live grenade, don't try it like him in the "Sands of Iwo Jima" 4 seconds is not a long time, and sometimes grenades go off in two, or six seconds - or not at all. BTW saw a bunch of these in Vietnam war, both hand thrown & rifle launched - notoriously effective, much better than the Chinese Palm Z's.

rickirs
Maybe the work of some of Suthep's "southern friends" that he brought to Bangkok. Maybe the Syrian Army, Hamas, Taliban, or Al Qeada? If these grenades had been used in Mynamar, even Buddhist monks might be suspect. The world is flooded with these kinds of mass produced, cheap weapons that a moron can use and obviously do use. The bottom line is that police need to do their job to identify and prosecute the perpetrators and not incite mobs to decide the guilty.
