webfact Posted February 3, 2014 Share Posted February 3, 2014 PDRC to retreat from Victory Monument and Lard PhraoBANGKOK: -- The People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) will retreat from Victory Monument and Lard Phrao intersection where it occupied for a month back to Lumpini protest site after the two protest sites came under almost nightly grenade and gun attacks by armed gunmen.Latest attack at Lard Phrao protest site last night by small or ping pong bomb injured an anti-government protester. The small bomb was thrown from the Lard Phrao flyover and fell on the ground about 100 meters from where protesters were watching a musical band show.Decision to retreat from the two protest sites were discussed jointly by the PDRC leader Suthep Thaugsuban, the Network for Students and People for the Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) coordinator Issara Somchai, and Thaworn Senniem.Thaworn, a former Democrat MP for Songkhla province, is leader at the Victory Monument, while Issara is in charge at Lard Phrao.All agreed to dismantle their stages at both protest sites back to Lumpini park, the key base of the PDRC, and is more secure than the two sites.PDRC leader Suthep will lead protesters in a 14-kilometre march from Lard Phrao and Victory Monument at 9.00 a.m. to Lumpini park using Phaholyothin Saphan Kwai, Victory Monument, Rajathevi, Pathumwan intersection, Rama I, Rajaprasong, Rajadamri, and Lumpini park.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/pdrc-retreat-victory-monument-lard-phrao/ -- Thai PBS 2014-02-03 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you've seen their assets recently there are not that many to consolidate. What did happen to the plan to paralyse BKK as announced by Suthep last week and promised again to a tiny crowd (I was in it) at Asoke on Friday? Asoke will be the next to be "consolidated". Edit: the funniest part on Friday was when he announced the government was busing over Cambodians to vote on Sunday. Even the fervent whistlers were perplexed by that bit of nonsense. Silom Rd. looks like a Bangladeshi slum. There are more vendors amd shoppers than protesters. You gotta love the Thais - they never miss a retail opportunity Patriotic songs being played over and over again - with about about 3 geriatric grannies sitting listening. The rest of the crowd consisting of the PRDC security mafia - insisting on checking people's bags as they enter the area. F@#k O@# I say. What right have these guys got to appoint themselves as security personnel. Just when are the police/army/BMA or somebody going to come in and clear these people away? (Chalerm, hey Big Fella, come over and flex your muscle please). Guess what PRDC. The war is over and you guys lost! You mean three grannies draped in red, white and blue and a few dozen security guys are really causing that much of a problem for you?. Ask yourself why Chalerm hasn't showed up with a posse and hauled all these bad ass guys away, same goes for Suthep and his crowds, no one has the temerity to walk up to him and say "You're under arrest mate'. So it will continue until the people in the areas affected turn on the protesters and kick them out instead of handing them money. The BMA and army won't touch them, that leaves the Plod and we all know how effective they are. Can we assume you actually live in the affected area? If you do, you have my sympathy. The merger of the three protest sites at Lumpini Park and Silom road will bring the number of permanent protesters, mostly from southern provinces, to about 10,000. By having street vendors and shoppers, celebrities and their fans flocking to see them they can actually show a lot of people in their photos to the media, claiming lots of protestors. In fact probably now only 10% are protestors and 90% are there for selfies, shopping or to try to get a photo of a celebrity. Clever way of boosting the numbers of people in photos. Similar to not having a "colour" shirt. It makes it impossible on a photo to determine who is a protestor and who is just standing around, shopping, watching, picture taking if there is no colour to define who is who.
