BANGKOK, Feb 28 – A pro-government red shirt leader has rejected the formation of an armed force, nor an idea of separating Thailand to resolve the political conflict.

Thida Thavornseth, chairwoman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said red shirt demonstrators have only set up security forces to protect themselves from rival protesters led by Peoples Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban.

She warned several UDD factions which have independently organised their rallies to be careful in their verbal statements and avoid any activities that could damage the UDD as a whole.

Apparently, she was referring to an earlier statement by a red shirt group which threatened to separate Thailand’s North and Northeast from the kingdom.

Nisit Sinthuprai, a key UDD leader, said red shirt supporters in the Northeast would launch a rally at Thung Si Muang in Udon Thani province on the weekend to stress the group’s determination to protect democracy.

The People’s Radio Media Group, another pro-government faction, publicly announced that it would strengthen its demonstration and pressure independent agencies in Thailand.

Group spokesman Sornrak Malaithong said Vicha Mahakhun, a member of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), would be an arrest target, and that the group would follow NACC members wherever they meet after their office in Nonthaburi was sealed off.

Independent agencies must be reformed, he said, and the Election Commission is the next target after which Civil Court judges must be removed.

Red shirt protesters have completely blockaded the NACC main entrance with cement, and put up a stage and tents in front of the compound. (MCOT online news)

Cunning as an outhouse rat, our Thida. No flies on her, only the marks where they've been.

OTOH those who have been a little too explicit in revealing red thinking may find they have some explaining to do after things settle once more.

Someone please tell me how this one works?

That'll be the people's court, comrade. ?

About 4 years too late to avoid that damage to their reputation.

Bangkok and the south would be ruled by a democratically elected government with the king as head of state and the north and northeast would be ruled by President Thaksin. I don't think the Thai people would accept this.

Edit: spelling mistake

Oh please!....give them Koh Chang....put a fence around it....and stop the ferries.

Excuse me, Koh Chang is not a red area, and we certainly don't want the island destroyed by the Red Shirts smile.png

I was waiting, and you didn't disappoint. 555

Khun Thida chairs the UDD, so its right that she should be concerned, about some of the wilder proposals currently being made by her fellow-leaders. thumbsup.gif

Yingluck is caretaker-PM, of the caretaker PTP-led coalition-government, and the UDD are an important part of 'her' movement, yet she seems strangely silent about what some of its resident-nutters say ?

Perhaps she should give a clearer direction, about what they do or don't stand for, or would that be too distracting ? whistling.gif

The problem is that once you split Thailand it is theoretically no longer a kingdom, it now becomes a state or republic, is this what you want?

They are threatening to get their goon squad to kidnap him. It's intimidation to make him play nice while reviewing the PM's negligence case.

Yay for red democracy and Yingluck's "rule of law".

Not at all, there's small island north of France that has a United Kingdom with separate parliaments.

Not a good idea for Thailand and will never won't be allowed to happen.

Wonderful how this objectionable old lady seems to condemn the P.R.D.C for their actions yet she then decides in her own minds without consulting others it would seem that she will imitate them ( the P.R.D.C ) in a more draconian fashion.

She really is a sad old lady who cannot actually see let alone understand that politically she and her kind will be the first up against the wall if the Shinwatra clan plans were to succeed.

In reality she would and the country be better off if she was placed in a sheltered homes unit for elderly people at risk due to their diminishing mental faculties.

It seen that Thida lose control of UDD hardliners....

If she is really a democracy advocate, she must distance herself from this hardliners, condemn them and declare this people enemy of democracy and UDD movement !
