Since two days my email connection is extremely slow, I can barely receive messages but can't send them.

Last night around 21.00 it all become normal again. Internet is fine, no problems at all.

Only have the problem with two of my 3 accounts. Anybody else experiencing similar problems?

I am on Koh Pha Ngan, I use maxnet and my connection is timing out before I can download / upload email messages from my server, what I dont understand is why when surfing the net my connection is as fast as ever.

WEIRD

This has been happening for tyhe past 48 hours

Exactly, since the last 48 hours and internet is fine.

Very strange. Good to know I'm not alone in this.

Search our computer forum and look for MTU settings. I had that problem a few weeks ago.

I have CAT, TT&T and TOT. CAT being the backbone for all international traffic should be in reality the best service but its not.

It seems that TOT is the best internet provider at the moment and is 25% cheaper than TT&T and CAT.

TT&T for the last month have started to use caching to make it appear the internet connection is faster, but for mail, ftp etc its slow and at times ftp in unusable.

Penzman,

Can you be a bit more precise and direct me a thread that covers the MTU, since I couldn't find anything.

Thanks.

RCM,

That sounds like a lot of croc! My internet is not affected at all, it's fast, it's just the email accounts that suffer.

Mosquitoman, also have a Maxnet connection, maybe the same server, although it's slightly better at the moment, it's nowhere near how it used to be 3 days ago.

Very frustrating.

hi,

So i phoned TT&T yesterday and send them screenshots from my speed tests from the last couple of days by email . they answered the email that the line was faulty -same as they said on the Phone.

Now, I got my speed back including the fast Email as well- 450/205 was the last speeds i checked.Hope it stays that way.

wish you good luck with your connection,

I am stillexperiencing problems this morning.

As far as I can work out the problem started on Tuesday morning, and is affecting Maxnet customers when they try to post or receive emails. I know of two other companies (both based on Koh Pha Nagn using maxnet and the same email server) affected in the same way as Limbos and I.

It is not affecting their internet connection or any websites they have hosted by the same server they use for emails.

I have contacted the company that arranges my email hosting, they tell me the server is working fine.

Is this a Maxnet issue?

WHAT TO DO?

If you can, get TOT its the only solution, believe me i have had all 3 adsl internet providers here.

We are in Chaweng and have ADSL with TT&T and were down completely until about midday today. No internet connection and no emails.

We have complained before and always get the stock response that it is our phone line that is the problem. Engineers check the phone line and blame the ISP. Typically Thailand - round in circles with no one accepting responsibility.

I live in Big Buddha and my phone line is from TT&T.

Can anyone tell me if I can choose any of the three available providers on the island or that I'm stuck with TT&T?

Want to get ADSL shortly.

The internet seems to be fast because most sites get cached in Bangkok. Emails cannot get cached forcing CAT to go to servers in the UK and US, and because the International bandwidth is crap you get your time outs.

iumas,

How come this is only a problem since a week?

BTW, receiving emails is fast again, just sending them is a nightmare.

This sounds very plausible. My email server is in London docklands,

ok here's the fix for outgoing mail for tt&t/maxnet users:

You need to change your outgoing mail server:

In outlook go to tools -

e-mail accounts

highlight 'view or change existing e-mail accounts'

press next

highlight mail account

press change

in 'Outgoing mail server (SMTP): enter smtp.tttmaxnet.com

press next

press finish

problem solved

Here's the link to fix the problem I had. Surfing was fine, email was ok until I tried to reply or send.

Thanks very much, you've answered a problem I've been scratching my head over for a few days.

Do you know whether this is a technical problem or have TT&T recently blocked access to third party SMTP servers? I know a lot of ISPs are doing this to prevent spam etc.

Anyhow, thanks for the heads up on MaxNet's SMTP server address. Problem solved.

Regards

Paul

Yes, they do now. I just spoke with their engineer on the phone.

There are at least three concerns about this setup:

a) if TT&T SMTP server fail, we don't have a backup,

:o We cannot send mail securely through our SMTP and

c) As all emails from TT&T subscribers will be going through one server in Thailand, there might be privacy complications...

As a workaround, check with your e-mail/hosting provider if they support alternative SMTP ports - many of them do. Most email programs will allow you to change SMTP port.

Let's hope TOT will not follow this practice...
