My wife's dad pulled out a pump from an old water well. A pump and a motor seem to be in a good condition and he wants to use it to pump water from the late to his farm house. The motor is a 1 phase with run and start windings - 3 wires coming out of it +1 ground wire. Manufacturers Web site says it is a capacitor start, capacitor run type.

The problems are:

1. They disconnected the wires from the motor without marking the wires so now I couldn't tell how they were connected to a control box.

2. Control box was sitting outside unprotected for years, it filled up with water and all the components got so rusted out that when I opened it, there was only a collection of components, couldn't tell how they were connected as most of the connections rusted out.

3. Dad opened up a bottom of the motor and drained and dumped the oil... (motor was oil filled and manufacturer states it is dielectric type of oil and used for cooling).

Questions:

1. To determine the start and run windings, start winding would have a higher resistance of the 2, correct?

2. Run winding supposed to be connected through a capacitor (run capacitor) and the start capacitor connects in parallel to the run capacitor but only for a short duration, correct?

3. I don't want to make any fancy control boxes as I have no ideas where to get the components in Thailand. Can I get by with just a run capacitor? I think without the start capacitor, the motor won't reach the maximum starting torque but it's not going to be used in any demanding applications.

4. Of the 2 capacitors on the pictures, the black one is for start, correct?

5. Where can I buy the proper electronic components to make it work?

6. What type of oil I can use to fill up the motor before I went to start it?

Bump.

Folks, is there not any electricians among you? Please help with at least some of the questions if you can't answer all of them.
