Prompong: new election should be held within 60 days

BANGKOK, 28 April 2014 (NNT) - A spokesman for the ruling Pheu Thai Party, Prompong Nopparit, advised the Election Commission (EC) to accept opinions from the public, political leaders, and even foreign countries about holding a new election within 60 days as proposed by 53 political parties.

While the Election Commissioner in charge of elections, Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, said most parties agreed to set an election date on July 20, Mr Prompong cited the letters sent to the caretaker prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra from 30 parties requesting to hold an election within 60 days, or before July 20.

Furthermore, he believes that a quick election will benefit the Kingdom and its people, not just Pheu Thai or coalition government parties.

In case the EC still decides to hold an election on July 20 after meeting with the government on April 30, he will be convinced that it was politically driven.

Did PTP decide whether they might assign police to help at polling-stations, if/when requested by the E.C., this time ?

Would the caretaker-PM, if she's still around, consider meeting with the E.C., if they felt they needed to ? Or would she continue to communicate by Facebook/Skype instead ?

And if the E.C. were to follow the PTP's orders request, and hold the election earlier-than-planned, would they also regard that decision as being "politically driven" too ?

So hold another election ASP, same as Feb 2 before anything is sorted and achieve the same result.

You have two camps, the PTP are desperate to get its grips on the reigns of power to completely destroy Suthep and he's supporters, Suthep is keen to have reforms before elections , so that he's neck and others are not on the line and the power base shifts away from the PTP and their type of dictatorship management, because there is nothing to convince me that they work within a democracy framework, so a repeat of the previous elections will be the result , unless either changes its position and gives the rites of passage to each other , that then would let Thailand move forward.

Maybe a miracle can happen and the PTP listen to the people they say they represent

In another post today when the Thai people where asked their feelings

10 per cent want the majority voice to be respected,

That leaves a massive 90% of Thai people who now feel a new election will not solve the problem

so to take power by an election at this time does not seem to be what the people want

But as the only way to reach a democratic new parliment is by an election, why do so many Thais feel this is not the solution ??????

Stop holding the economy to hostage Khun Somchai. All my business associates and myself are suffering because of you playing politics. What's the difference holding within 60 days and 20th July. It still will be harassed by the PDRC. Get the police and soldiers to protect the polling booths. If that's not enough, have the polling booths in police stations or army barracks. Better if before the election, Ahbisit can straighten Suterp up and tell him that there are no laws for a neutral PM or have the special force arrest Suterp and all the PDRC leaders. Anymore delays in forming the government, the economy will continue to suffer and along with the citizens. Thank you.
