PHUKET: -- Phuket Vice Governor Sommai Prijasilpa is pushing to install ozone generators throughout Rassada as a long-term solution to wastewater problems in the area.

The vice governor yesterday afternoon inspected the new ozone generator used to treat water at Soi Paniang to determine whether the same machine could be used in Rassada.

“This machine was developed at Kasetsart University in Bangkok,” said Kanok Nakaew, chief of Research and Development at the Center for Energy and Environmental Engineering Laboratory at the university.

“It uses the advanced oxidation process, during which ozone is added to the water to kill off harmful bacteria such as coliform.

“Coliform can create negative effects if ingested by humans, including diarrhea and cramps.”

Mr Kanok added that water treated using the ozone generator meets the standards of the Pollution Control Department.

“The small ozone generator in Soi Paniang was installed as a short-term solution, but after seeing how it works I would like to see it installed throughout Rassada as a long-term water-treatment system,” Vice Governor Sommai said.

Mr Kanok explained that the treatment capacity of the generator varies according to the size of the machine.

“We would need to calculate how many machines are needed and how much water each one would be treating to know what kind of budget would be needed,” Mr Kanok said.

Rassada already has a 14-million-baht budget set aside for a long-term water-treatment system, said V/Gov Sommai, but it has not yet been decided which system to use.

“At our next budget meeting, I will propose ozone generators as a long-term wastewater solution. We should have an answer to the problem soon after,” V/Gov Sommai said.

Proven technology, we have used it to clean "Rubber Ponds" Water odors and killing bacteria and viruses.

The process here in Thailand is a bit ore difficult due to the high ambiant temperature of the water.

There is no wast, just turns back to Oxygen, contact time is the key to success!

Requires knowledge of the system and "Regular Prevenative Maintenance"

I use a small Ozone Generator to clean and extend my vegetable storage time, soke on cold Ozonated water, and extend the storage life of most all vegetables by3X in the frig.

Also cleans the air in my "Old Thai House". Removes pet odors and smoking smells in my staff's house.

Friends resort, he uses mine to remove mildew odors and smoke smell, from curtins, rugs, the whole room.

Requires Care and Knowledge as do all things we do in life.

Great idea. I have worked for a water treatment company in the past and these ozone machines are brilliant...! Will clear anything.

No, Ozone naturally dissipates back into pure oxygen. Other benefits include the reduction of corrosive chemicals such as chlorine. However the UV treatment process requires energy in the form of electricity and cannot work when the power is lost. Most modern treatment works here in the EU have back-up power supplies for such an occurrence and to keep the site plant functional. A good system when installed professionally and maintained by qualified engineers/technicians who will be aware that Ozone treatment can sometimes produce by-products such as bromate that can harm human health if they are not controlled. Youre more likely to get a bad case of the tom tits through the poor hygiene relating to poor handling and storage of food stuffs, etc, before the coloforms in the water get ya...hit-the-fan.gif

I watched both test projects (Rassada and Karon) and within hours you can see the difference.

Unfortunately, with the Karon project, due to the heavy rain, they big wigs said that due to the rain flow, the problem cleared up!!!!! blink.png It has been a ping pong game between the bigwigs managing that municipality.

There is now a 3 month project approved for Rassada and it will be great to see clear water again. The problem is that Thais will always use that canal for dumping their cooking oils and other "matter". Educating them is the only option. cheesy.gif

The bit that worries me here is"regular preventative maintenance" not something this country is renowned for.

I would be interested to know what they "developed" in this old technology. Has there been some genuine advancement or breakthrough - or is this a case of something not really being invented until it is "invented" in Thailand?

If I understood the ozone process correctly, the extra oxygen molecule on O3 is eager to transfer to other molecules.

Efficient way to kill the bacteria, but don't this create extra sediment to the bottom of the water as the bacteria dies and falls to the bottom?

Therefore over the time, there will be even more carbon based material, which the still alive bacteria can use for food once the treatment stops?

Bacteria is there to process the waste we let to get to the water. Therefore the only way to have real effects is to make sure there is no food for the bacteria to grow. Therefore, like said before, educating people not to throw carbon based materials (food for the bacteria) to the waters.

“This machine was developed at Kasetsart University in Bangkok,” - I think that actually means, "this machine was copied at Kasetsart University in Bangkok." biggrin.png
