So this proves the law also applies to Thai "bar owners", not just the farang ones.

There are no farang bar owners in Thailand

I know that, but thanks for the reminder. We don't want to upset all the greed and gusto some have when they announce they are a "bar owner" when in fact as you point out, they simply got a lease or have their money in their "girlfriends" name and will lose it at some point. But hey, the drinks are free in the meantime and they will be admired for being in the club of "bar owners" admired by so many unknowing souls who visit.

im surprised they found no teenagers over 20!

only in the farang "gogo" bars will you find girls in their 20's and even 30's pretending to be teenagers...

The article is talking about customers, not staff.

No customer below 20 yo when there is alcohol for sell.

Obviously the owner thought that a 30 day closure order meant paying double triple tea money, what he did not realise the person he was paying was removed from office a few weeks ago during the infamous 90 minute visit by the RTN.

Where are all our "tea money" parrots?

What do you mean? Is the tea money thing just a myth? I have two friends who own small businesses (not bars) and they pay the 5K baht each month.

Not sure what you mean, but

there are "farang bar" owners and farang "bar owners" in Thailand.

Why not?

Farang's aren't allowed to own real property in Thailand. The leases for "bars" are suspect at the least, most likely of no real value in terms of money. You pay for permission to operate. It's really a rather simple concept to understand. You pay but you don't own anything. Keep in mind the types of people we refer to and you have your context.

No, not a myth, but it just cover "everyday small things" with the local police

In no way it will cover against a closure order from the Court.

I guess you have a valid point since it appears to be a Thai bar. I was just helping people understand how you could have people over 20 called "teenagers" in such an environment as Pattaya.

You don't need to own the building to "own a bar". All licenses are in your name, all business is in your name, all bill and revenues in your name, even the name of the bar may be deposited in your name. So yes you may be a "bar owner".

Bar licenses can only be in Thai name

Quote from the Pattaya Daily News link, "Also the officers found 1 kilograms of baraku tobacco and 10 bongs which the officers confiscated."

I took a walk down Soi 6 a week ago. At least half the beer bars had girls outside puffing away on a bong hookah. I assume that what they were smoking was tobacco but I wasn't about to get close enough to give the smoke a smell test.

I wonder how long it has been since Mr.Prapan Pratumchompoo has had a plain clothes walk down Soi 6?

This isn't the real estate section mate. Fact remains, the farang in the "bar" and prostitution business doesn't own anything including the revenues you mention above. Visit your local jail in Angeles City and catch us up on the Human Trafficking laws as applied to foreigners "owning" bars in these third world countries with their tip toe prostitution angles which have finally been exposed and then we'll see who stands up and calls himself the "bar owner".

Go ahead and get close, man. Stop teasing; let us know what it really is.

Never assume that a law, or putative law, enforced in one place need or should be enforced in another. That would be merely to betray a cultural provincialism learned somewhere outside of Thailand. Mai pen rai!

Next. :)

Wrong!

I am a farang bar owner and I have got the visa to prove it.

If you have the proper bar owners visa, you can.

How dare you crash our lovely hot air balloon by interjecting mere unwelcome facts!

(But please continue doing it!)

Don't know what happened but 1/2 my post was deleted for unknown reasons.

What I said in my original post was,

There is no such thing as a "bar owner" visa. You can tell the judge all that stuff, no point in deceiving possible "investors" on here. There are plenty of people who will tell others they can "own" a bar. Fact remains, only Thai people can own. I don't care, I don't drink. I just find the sales efforts of real estate and bars an utter and sick joke on many. Life savings down the clogged drain of some "bar" in Pattaya.
