Training launched to address issue of narcotics police engagements and weapons use

BANGKOK, 5 August 2014 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police launched training for narcotics police officers on Monday to address the issue of engagements and weapons use in populated areas.

Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner Pongsapat Pongcharoen and Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Suraphon Thuanthong chaired the launch of the training for 65 police officers. According to Police General Pongsapat, the 5-day training is aimed at increasing work efficiency of the officials, and to foster public confidence that no civilian will be harmed during police missions.

The training was announced a few days after a female Chulalongkorn University law student was driving when she was overtaken and stopped by police who mistook her car for that of a suspected drug dealer and fired several shots at her car tires. Fortunately, she was unharmed by the gunshots.

And after the training is finished, they will wait 'til they accidentally shoot someone and then start first aid training.
