Received notification from the men in brown that entertainment has to close down from sat 6pm till sun midnight...

As well no alcohol is allowed to be sold, neither in restaurants or convenience stores...

Bummer for the weekend!

it's a bummer, a little bit incorrect

all nightlife can remain open if they wish but no alcohol is to be sold. business can resume as normal from 6pm sunday.

its still bloody stupid

And don't forget, it will be the same on March 26th, when they have the Pattaya Mayor and Council elections. The election tomorrow is I think, for the Chonburi council.

O dear, again and again...anyway I will be in the Royal Orchard Lounge in departures tonight between 9pm and midnight for the 12-30 am budgie back to the smoke so.......I dont give a hoot :o:D

I was notified that "entertainment places" have to close down, they didn't give me the option to stay open without selling alcohol...

Anyway there wouldn't be much use in staying open only selling softs :o

Eyebee is correct...elections for the mayor are on the 26th...

i know some go gos that will remain open to get barfines, or so they say,

personally i'm closed and i'm going to enjoy a stress free night in front of the telly with a cold beer.

All because the Thais don't have the sense to take the drink, or money

and then vote for who they want, rather than who gave the bribe.

I have just been informed that alcohol cannot be served until midnight tomorrow - i.e. the whole of the election day. And for any that are interested, the Sunday Quiz League game tomorrow is cancelled.

2 whole days without booze - it's enough to make a grown man cry! :o:D

i said before i was going to have a night in .

i lied

its 1130pm i've just come home after the police finally shut the beer bar outside the bf.

business as usual from 6pm sunday, officially 12am but as said by the police no problem, (yeh right)

anyway unless otherwise instructed we are open 9pm.

Yep, the rule says midnight, but i've known walking street to be in full swing at nine...

Soi 6 will be up and running at 6 pm if nothing goes wrong...

Funny isn't it?

TiT

What was with the night of the 7th? I had a mate come and vist, we went out in Sri Racha and couldn't get a beer until midnight. Numbers day apparently. was that local election day in Sri Racha? or what was the story there?

I knew nothing about it, although with the local elections on, I should have guessed.

Out for a night on the town by myself (wife and daughter up-country) dropped into the Queen Vic in Soi 6 at about 6.00 pm, fill the belly with alcohol-absorbent pie and mash. Out into the street at 7.00 pm and the place is in darkness.

Stroll up and down, ask what's happening, one or two girls sitting outside bars tell me "We're closed by police". After several katoeys try to pull me, leave the darkened Soi and head for Sois 7 and 8. Almost the same there, but some bars are opening, selling softies (at 50 baht a pop). But virtually no girls. Some bars have one or two sitting around, but not anyone pulling punters.

Then find one bar showing football on a large screen. Ask for a Singha, get served. After a few minutes one or two more people drift in to watch the football. And then several more. All are ex-pats, so cannot be corrupted by evil vote-buying politicians. (Who didn't have the politeness to show up and try to bribe us, even!). In the end, about a dozen beer-drinking, football-following guys watch Chelsea and Arsenal win.

But no bar-fines .......

Lesson 1 - don't think of butterfly-ing - the Thai wives have a direct line to a very subtle but retributative god.

If she goes upcountry again on the 26th, she probably found out that before and on election days not much hanky panky is going on :o

Everybody is supposed to be sober when they go vote, so no alcohol the day before and on the voting day itself...

For obvious reasons, they can't allow bars frequented by Farongs to remain open while closing down Thai pubs... I can very well understand this wouldn't go down very well with the locals!!!

The dry weekend wasn't a problem anyway, I just invited the staff of my favourite bar round to mine for a drink and a meal. If you can't go to the bar, bring the bar to you :o 1 guy, 7 gorgeous Thai ladies. There is a god :D

funnily enough, I haven't had a weekend as "wet" as the weekend just gone in a long while. Didn't even notice the alcohol restrictions. I am sure that my mate, who is also a member of this fine forum will agree. Well do you?

There is a story going around that the closing times for this weekend election has been revised somewhat.

Anybody heard that after 6pm on election day, beer is available again?

Posted

Bit late manfromoz?

whilst I do not know anyone that voted, I am sure the election was last weekend.

But in support of your thread, I did visit a couple of resturaunts over the weekend who told me they would serve ber after 6pm, the wife told me this is against the law, but no beer, no patronage.

anyone with some more info?

Tukyleith,

Yep, again elections this weekend, but this time for the new Mayor of Pattaya.

Guess you'll be allright where you're living :o

I think Pattaya is gonna grind to a halt around 6pm friday, but no news yet when it'll get going again on saturday...

It's probably a good time to do some promoting of the nightlife in the surrounding districts of Pattaya...

I'll post some ideas when I know more... :D

hmm.

Well, I am outta here Thursday night, back off to work in sunny old Azerbaijan :D

I am taking the missus and the rug rat this time so I will not be lonely atleast.

Anytone looking for a good meal, or a drink...come up to Sri Racha.

For a good meal, if a little expensive try Moom aroi. any tuk tuk driver can show you where it is. There are plenty of other places in town, but I have found the best to be the driveway at my place with a couple of kilo of prawn/crab and a a heap of beer chang.

For a drink, try Time Bomb, they have a couple of ladies, some guys and a few Katouys dancing every hour, nothing special but it lightens the night up.

Website is the local Hollywood, enough said. ( I do enjoy going there once in a while).

There is a new market place just finished, there is a pub there I cannot remember the name just now, I have not tried it but doesn't look too bad with live music and so forth.

If you drive up, park your car somewhere and get in a tuk tuk and cruise the streets, there are plenty of pubs and enjoyment venues. You cannot go worng in Sri Racha.

By the way, we have a huge contingency of Japanese guys, hence a LOT of Japanese Karaoke (complete with ladies), if you end up in one, do not forget to spread the Thiavisa.com message as I am sure there are questions a Japanese guy has that can be answered here.

Sri Racha welcomes all Pattaya residents who want a night out on election night.
