PHUKET: -- Phuket City officials have offered to help the families of the victims of the Chokchai furniture shop in Talad Yai, in which four people died in the early hours of August 2.

Mayor Somjai Suwansupappana said city officials will help pay for the funerals of three of the victims, and a total of B139,000 has already been given to the families.

The relatives of Chanya Kannapat, the fourth victim, were also given B25,000, with another B25,000 to come from another government department.

The survivor of the fire, shop owner Janhom Jakkaew, is currently receiving treatment at Bangkok hospital in Phuket town and will continue to receive financial support for medical costs.

Mayor Somjai said she believes that the people of Phuket will learn from this incident and the city will do more to find people to work in the emergency services.

To ensure maximum safety for the public, training for fire-fighters will be organised every Friday.
