TSF
RIP poor man. But how bad is home that these guys would rather top themselves than go back home? I'm from Australia, I love living in LOS, been here a long time and plan on staying for much longer. But if for any reason it all came to an end and I had to return to Australia then so be it. I'll enjoy life watching footy and drinking cans of VB and sharing dirty jokes with my mates around the barbi. I'm AU.....and your point is exactly what. You love life and that's great....how's this got to do with bloke that clearly must of been in desperate state. Ta for the update on shrimp on the barbie. My point was these suicides by farang guys who run out of dosh and chose death rather than return home are fairly common in LOS. So I often wonder what's so bad about home? And only poofters put shrimps on the barbi..real men barbi steaks & chops & snags.

Benmart
Sad that some seem to find a suicide as entertainment or a platform for levity. One can make fun of the misfortune of others, but I believe that life comes full circle in some instances. RIP Dear Man.

Torrens54
This was reported on national news channel this morning. The police were trying to talk the man down, but he jumped with the cameras rolling, and all shown on national tv. Sickening to see, and even more sickening for a national tv channel to allow such a tragic event to be aired. Feel sorry for the family and friends of the deceased RIP. Not pleasant to see but don't blame the Thai TV Stations, when almost EVERY Network in America ran "LIVE" coverage of "jumpers" from the twin towers on 9/11. CraigSchuler
I've talked with Doug on several occasions via the internet and was always a pleasure to visit with. He came to Thailand from Las Vegas, NV where he worked as a card dealer in the casino's. His family fell apart at one point and his marriage ended in a divorce. I believe he said he owned a condo in Vegas which he sold after he decided to make a move to Thailand. Not all men that go Thailand are sex tourists, sometimes life is unfair and being lonely is a hard path to follow. I understand he met a Thai lady and together they moved somewhere north and he used his funds to build them a house. I remember him saying that the village life was a bit too slow for his liking and he moved back to Pattaya. He took a TESOL course at one point and had done a few teaching jobs. He was pretty well known with the expat community and everybody seemed to like the guy. He never came across as being upset or unhappy and just seemed to love Thailand. I think this really came as a shock to all who knew him. So, please before anymore ill comments are spoken, remember he had family and friends and I was totally surprised when I opened my Facebook first thing this morning was to see his body after a 27 story fall. Rest in peace my friend!.......

jacko45k
If he had run out of money, he could have sold the condo. RIP Mr Rex. If it is VT6 they do a lot of rental. If he owned it yes, a lot of value there and if he rented, he could have found cheaper. Pattaya is merciless when it comes to spending money. Sad for the guy.
rainham
Whats going on fellas every other day, its like that movie THE HAPPENING what makes people do that ? its so sad, i mean that poor guy presumably worked hard for years raised a family then like many of us split from his partner and came to Thailand in search of a bit of well earned peace and maybe find a soul mate . Thaijack2014
I can understand the desperation of somebody who rather wants to die then having to go back to a country in which he is not happy. Living without money or honey in Thailand might be the main reason. I know jumping from a roof is a very secure way to die. But selfish as well. Loose from the fact, that he doesn't care what happens after he dies, there are a lot of people who have the shock of seeing him fall, crashing on the concrete and having to deal with his dead body. These people have nothing to do with his misery, how sad it might be. It should be better if there was an organisation who really could help that person. It happens too many times....maybe after a while he could have been happy again...

R123
In Pattaya there seems to be a frequency to these kinds of suicides. I wonder if Thai Visa might consider a seperate exclusive "Help Line" threat for any persons feeling depressed or suicidal to perhaps seek assistance. Maybe some experienced carers who know how to handle such individuals could be asked to monitor and give symathetic advice on such a thread. Thai Visa has a doctor on call for health matters and a lawyer for legal questions, so why not a professional able to handle those persons who feel they need to end it all. Just an idea. TommyTaylor
They say a fall from even 2 meters can kill you. Glad this guy wasn't taking any chances and went for 27 floors. Its always got to be doubly tough to try and kill yourself only to survive a paraplegic. I really try and discourage American males from coming over here IF they are showing any signs of mental health issues since this place only makes them worse...eventually. Wonder if the family back home will need assistance on this end. its the girls!
tardelli
There are TONS of "NORMAL single Thai ladies in Thailand; who searching farang guys in datings everyday in internet; they are dying to finding a foreign lover or a husband ; and they dont charge any money too !! just for love. i am Talking about single or divorsed young or middle age thai ladies who has a normal job ; many friends of mine found really nice and decent ladies and some got married too. i still cant understand :WHY % 90 american and English guys prefer to go with avaricious and heartless BAR GiRLS or WITH PROSTiTUTES usualy at all??? if you go with whores than of course they will hurt in the end. whores are degenerated and fixed only to money.not the man most. maybe the Anglosaxon system in usa and uk teach their citizens only TO BUY SEX at all; they have no idea about to find a normal girl and live happly together with her in love.. simply most anglo guysdoesnt know Normal relationship with normal ladies. when they go abroad ; first think they do is: goo beer bar and take a bar girl !!!!! and expect from her real love !! HOW??? its really pity 52 years old mankilled himself for nothing. maybe is the sick and stupid anglo systems fault in there ; because most of anglo guys chooice that tragic way to kill himself in abroad. us uk aus.

You assume suicide is not a valid choice. In many of these instances it might be the best choice. Regardless, humans are born with free will and an adult has the birthright to end his-her own life if they choose.
Living in a cartoon
I recall a story similar but even more tragic in Jomtien, maybe five years ago. A young child fell from the high balcony where he lived with his father. A few days later his father committed suicide. I offered my condolences on TV to his family. His brother contacted me, and was grateful that I did so. He did mention how cruel some of the posts were. Remember, the loved ones of these people read this forum. Refrain from callous and cruel remarks.

Much the same that the Israeli families would be feeling after CNN ran TWO vids of vans ploughing into people today... You can't blame the Thai Media.. It was a very sad event, but was deemed newsworthy.... Our sensitivities, to death and dying, mean nothing in Thailand, that is just a fact... RIP Old mate... and I hope, I, and others, I know, never find ourselves in that terrible situation. None of us know the future.

I hear this often with expats and when they say they are going to move upcountry and build a house I do everything I can to try and stop them as from my experience 99% of the them don't last long up there. Most don't listen of course but I tell them try it first for 6-8 months before building anything. RIP Doug
infinity11
very sad that people have to come to this..... but if you're going to then 27 floors is the way to go. RIP dude Oz Imagine the last few moments, and what if you change your mind on the way down? I think this is NOT the way to go (for me) if at the end and time to leave. But yes, relatively quick and yes, not nice for those left behind or to witness. I wonder what it would have taken for him to decide to go on living? BTW video has been removed. infinity11
Very selfish, now people on holiday/other residents will be freaked out to use the pool. Through experience and travel, i find selfish and inconsiderate describes a proportionately higher amount of the local population than elsewhere.
