webfact
Phuket Post Office launches drive-thru counterGov Nisit was the first customer for the Drive Thru Post service.PHUKET: -- The Phuket Post Office headquarters in Phuket Town today (December 15) launched a ‘Drive Thru Post’ service in a ceremony chaired by Governor, Nisit Jansomwong chaired the opening of the new service of Phuket post.“I am very glad to see this development step for Phuket’s postal service,” said the Governor.“This service will help people save time when sending their mail. It would also help the government postal service compete with private mail businesses.”But he also noted that the Post Office has a way to go before reaching a world-class standard.“Apart from providing a convenient service, the service must also create trust among users that their mail will be sent safely to the recipients, and not get lost or damaged. It is one of the biggest problems that the department has to improve immediately,” he said.Nattapong Satirak, Asst Vice President of Region Postal Bureau (Region 8) explained the process and conditions of the Drive Thru Post.“It will be very fast and convenient for senders. People do not have to get off their cars but can stop at the post booth to drop off their mail.”“All mails (except international mail) is welcomed. That includes normal letters, registered letters, domestic EMS letters and domestic parcels. People can also do Pay at Post transactions [for paying utility bills] at the booth, all without getting out of their cars.”For normal mail the booth will accept a maximum of five pieces while EMS will be limited to three pieces. The service is available from 7:30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.Mr Nattapong expressed his confidence about the safety of the post office’s services.“We have been operating for 130 years and I believe that we have been building trust among Thai people. Also, we have a policy to increase security measure and monitoring during the logistics process,” he added.“A new building will also open at the post office building in Thalang on December 22 to improve service, and we already have mobile service cars in Phuket Town receiving letters and parcels on Narisorn Rd from 9am to midday and in front of Phuket Villa 3 from 1pm to 4pm,” he said.Source: http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-post-office-launches-drive-thru-counter-50117.php-- Phuket News 2014-12-16

yellowboat
An admirable effort on what is a promising idea. For international, we found the rates in Thaialand rather high compared to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Sourthern China.

Sydebolle
Chauffeur-driven in a limo is the only way you can drop off/pick up while driving through. Maybe they go and make post offices user friendlier; the one in Na Kluea/Pattaya sucks - seriously. Steep steps; parking space in no relation to customer traffic and English is not the language. On the drive through idea you could add ATMs (in Europe the case for 30 years) and/or a lamp indicating if an ATM is out of order. But then what would Somsak do with all the time he got freed ;-)
