BANGKOK, Dec 19 -- The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will deploy more carriages and trains to serve 112,000 passengers daily during the New Year festival.

SRT Public Relations chief Nuan-anong Wongjan said that normally the SRT operated 242 trains daily and they served an average of 95,806 passengers.

For the New Year period, the state enterprise will add a few more carriages to each normal train and deploy additional trains to increase the handling capacity by 17,000 to 112,806 passengers a day.

Additional carriages will be deployed for third-class and rapid trains on the northern, northeastern and southern routes. Additional trains numbering 8-13 will be on the northern and northeastern routes. The increased services will be from Dec 29 to 31 and from Jan 3 to 5.

On Dec 26, 28 and 30 the State Railway will add one extra train daily each on the northern route from Bangkok to Sila At and the northeastern routes from Bangkok to Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani. (MCOT online news)
