webfact Posted January 26, 2015 Share Posted January 26, 2015 Bangkok braces for potential incidents on Chinese New YearBANGKOK, 26 January 2015 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has prepared the disaster prevention and mitigation measures for the Chinese New Year day, said a spokesperson.The Advisor to Bangkok Governor and the BMA Spokesperson Tridao Apaiwong has said after a BMA meeting presided by the Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra at the City Hall regarding the safety measures for the Chinese New Year day 19 February 2015.Fire accidents are very likely during Chinese New Year celebrations due to the use of candles, incenses, and paper burning activities of Thai-Chinese people, and is especially risky in dense residential areas with houses made of wood.The BMA Spokesperson said that the BMA and related agencies have counter-measures ready in case an emergency situation occurs.The Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department will check the condition of the fire hydrants, inform the public in the communities on fire prevention procedures, while cooperation command centers will be established between related agencies.
