Thailand: Land of smiles, land of ghosts

Referring to the OP. How on earth do you question a 2 year old and expect sensible answers?

Someone on this forum once indicated that some Thai's drive their motorbikes without lights, to avoid ghosts chasing them. I thought that was a bit 'dodgy' but I'm now beginning to believe it a bit more.

I hope I hit the ghost before the bike. At least that would avoid hospital bills, given I'm bound to be in the wrong. Mind you, there could be a ghost hospital....now I'm being stupid!

Absolutely you're not.

A friend who had surgery in a Chiang Mai hospital, had a very strange experience post op. He likened it afterwards to feeling suffocated and not being able to breathe. A nurse was called at the time as he was waving his arms around etc, you could see that something wasn't right. It was 2am and we asked the nurse if she would call the doctor and her reply was to leave it a while as the doctor is sleeping and it could be the ghost of the hospital bothering him and it will move on. Now I know that sounds ridiculous and I'm inclined to think the nurse was just fearful of waking the doctor, but I am assured by a Thai person who was there that she was deadly serious about the ghost and I wonder how many people don't get the service they need because of this sort of thing......go figure?

I am figuring! and I would bet it comes down to fear of upsetting superiours and loss of face or job,if you do!..... the Ghosts? they can't answer if they don't exist.

I'm American, too. I wear no amulets, believe in nothing. I take my driving advice for Thailand from an American band, the Doors: "Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel! Uh, keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel!"

Agreed. I don't get on with or without God, God's, ghosts, goblins, apparitions, spirits, Devils, reincarnation, heaven, hell, and so on. The entire discussion is useless any way one looks at it.

But, of course we all know there is life after death. And how we know this to be true is that when you're gone the world goes on living without you. Lol.

I also have no need for religion of any type whatsoever.

However, the next time you are in real danger, for example in a little boat in a very big storm, then please tell me just who it is that you call out to for help.

Belief in spirits is not limited to Thailand

It would be foolish not to believe on ghosts

It is more how that is defined, than whether or not they exist and what their purpose is

Anyone with an ex wife has seen a woman possessed or of, an evil spirit

There are many spirits engaged in the physical world,

What they are or are not doing here and moving people in one behavior or another is a lengthy topic, and certainly not a message board subject

An ex wife is automatically an evil spirit.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

When i tell Thai's that in my 69 years on the Planet i have never seen, heard or encountered a Ghost in any way shape or form they think i am telling them lies. Even a ten year old kid told me last week they saw two Ghost's in the past week so i asked him if he would kindly take me to where they were so that i could see them but he said he wouldn't go back there because he was scared of them !

Those who fill kids minds with this shit have much to answer for.

Any more than hollywood do?

Who's to say? Is it any more silly than believing a man walked out of his tomb after 3 days? What we call superstitions are often rooted in fact. The truth is none of us really know.

and we all know that women live in a completely different dimension.cheesy.gif

My gf heard some noises late one night and told me ghosts .... I just laughed and said can not be as this is a ghost free zone. She looked puzzled and said "really !!!" I said "yes" and she rolled over and went back to sleep. Problem solved... Just declare your home ghost free zone :)

Lol. Been there. Done that. Thanks for making mention of this and reminding me of that day out on the lake, at age nine, when a squall kicked up and threatened to capsize me in my tiny rubber raft while out in the middle of the lake.

I called for no one and nothing to come to my aid as the white-capped waves came up over myself and my little boat. I used my brains. I simply lie back in the raft, shifting my body weight to and fro as needed, and stayed afloat until the wind blew me back to shore. But the dang wind came up short when I got near the shore, and I had to paddle the last fifty yards or so to the sand.

Also the time I was attacked by a huge, crazed nut-job who was whacked out of his mind on PCP and crack cocaine and could feel no pain. He came at me with a half a brick-in-a-sock, meaning to kill little ol' me with it. It's times like these when you don't waste any time looking for or asking for any help, but help yourself instead. I gave the man what he came to me to get: a broken left arm, the back of his head split open against the concrete, and some smashed ribs. Then, after his medical attention, he got: jail time and mandatory attendance of some anger management classes.

For those of you who do believe in god, no offense, but, he gave you a brain. Use it.

No it would be foolish to believe in ghosts, you may as well believe in absolutely anything if you have no proof and anyone saying "I see ghosts" is not proof at all.

Religion has all the answers, science does not.............tells you a lot right up until the moment science keeps disproving age old religious claptrap for religion to start doing massive u turns.

I am amused by all of the westerners who find amusement in the Thai's belief in Ghosts.

Most westerners have their own invisible friend they are willing to die and kill for.

How many millions have Christians, Muslims and Jews killed in the past 2000 years alone for the love of their invisible friend?

Thai ghosts are harmless compared to western spirits!

You make your point extremely well. I find the western ghosts every bit as silly and dangerous as the eastern ghosts.
