The BNH Spinal Center has a excellent staff and most speak a high level of English. BNH is among the best hospitals in Bangkok but also among the most expensive. Most Bangkok hospitals offer a variety of "Check-up" package plans running from B5000 up to B30,000. Try to determine what tests you want done and then find a package that best fits your needs. St. Louis Hospital is often mentioned as a less expensive alternative to the 5 Star institutions such as BNH and Bumrungrad. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I learned to go see a doctor before starting a check-up to see what they recommend for my physical condition/age at the time. Then return to same doctor for interpretation of results. An example of something I routinely add is STD/HIV testing. But, if, for example, you had history of a liver condition the doctor might add a few more liver-related blood tests. And, I'll add my admiration for the BNH Spine Clinic, as well as the Physical Therapy Clinic next door. In general, I give BNH a thumbs up. Broeno Posted March 4, 2015 Share Posted March 4, 2015 I was in the Bangkok hospital, Pattaya last week. Pain on my chest was the reathen i went there. Within one hour they told me i was in a high risk and had to stay there. They put me on a heart monitor and would do a heart catharesarion to see what the problem was. The catharesation took place 30 hours after i get in (high risk) but happely they found nothing serieus. The cardiologist told me i had to lay flat in the bad for 6 hours. If the tiny little wound would be closed well, i could leace the hospital. After the 6 hours nothing happend anymore. 12 hours later i asked when the doctor would see mee so i could leave. The doctor was very busy and they did not know when he had time to see me. 16 hours later they still did not know when the doctor had time so i told them that if he would not be there within 1 hour, i would take of the monitor stickers myself and will remove the infusion myself. After one hour a other doctor came to see me and told me i could leave the hospital. He even did not look at the catharisation wound. A nurse removend the infusion needle and the rest i did myself. For me this was a real rip off. Never been in to a hospital to quickly and never had so much teouble to get out again. For my feeling they made their money with the catharisation and did not take care for the rest. First and last time i went to this hospital. Dr. Wicharn at the BNH Spine Center is definitely recommended for spine issues. For general check-up, St Louis (just a few minutes away from BNH) is good. However, there as everywhere else, you need to go in having done your homework and knowing what tests you need. The "packages" on offer are not necessarily well tailored i.e. will have things unnecessary and lack things you might need. You can add on tests to any package and it is often better to take a lower end one and do that rather than going for a higher end package that may have a lot of unncessary tests. I also believe it comes down to how serious the injury/illness is and the cost. For instance, I have a few ongoing things and I always go see my Dr.'s at Bumrungrad for these issues. They know me, they have my files, records, medication history, etc. I feel most comfortable there as I think these are excellent Dr.'s who always provide me good medical care for what I consider to be fairly serious (in my mind) health situations I am dealing with. For other circumstances such as having a sinus infection or something like that, I I will often go to a smaller, private Thai hospital. A few weeks ago, I smashed my foot quite hard and thought it might be broke and wanted and X-Ray. I did not go to Bumrungrad for this as the cost simply would have been too high for a simple X-Ray, and at most a cast if I did break anything. I went somewhere else. I save substantial money doing this. I decided I had to begin this "multi hospital" policy of mine because I was quite sick last year and on the 5th day decided to go to Bumrungrad to see a Dr. I had the flu, sinus infections, and a chest infection. The bill was 12,000 baht all for under an hour worth of outpatient treatment (I.V. antibiotics, Dr. consult, medication, etc.) I no longer go to Bumrungrad for a simple flu or if I believe I have a general virus.
