euroflash
I know this may be a pretty odd question, but here goes: Does anyone know if banks here (preferably Bangkok Bank) have coin counting machines (or whatever they are called)? I need to empty my rather large piggy bank but fear I won't become very popular if the bank employee has to count the coins manually... Thanks in advance. Upcountry
Fill you pockets full of coins every day and use them at the local 7-11 instead.
fxm88
I've never seen one but I think Thai people would love 'em: money + lots of noise!
euroflash
Oh, forgot - tomorrow is lottery day. Maybe I should just hand over my 2,000+ coins to one of the ticket sellers.

astral
Bag them up by type 1baht, 5baht 10baht. The banks usually check by weight!!
shotover
7-11s and minimarts like receiving small coins as they often have shortages, and don't mind counting them out late night / early morning when they are least busy. My ex GF always hoarded all the coins either of us brought home, and got a kick of taking them to the neighborhood 7-11 for redemption.

euroflash
Well, went down to a large Bangkok Bank branch (without my coins) today. The kind woman told me they do not have one of those wonderful machines. Not even at the headquarters at Silom. So I guess collecting thousands of one baht coins wasn't such a great idea anyway. Maybe pop down to 7-11 at 4 AM and see what they say. Edited September 1, 2006 by euroflash
thaigerd
Couple of days ago I saw a sign here in TOPS supermarket, they were offering a nice gift for people who come and exchange their coins. My wife likes to collect all the coins she finds in my pockets and uses the for small shopping items, gas etc. Gerd

dutch
Yesterday to SCB in Korat 2000 baht in 5 baht coins. Nicely smiling girl was counting them one by one. At the end it was booked in the bankbook at a cost of 40 baht.
euroflash
Thanks all for your suggestions. Actually, I do remember seeing that sign at Tops, so maybe not a bad idea...
Losangels
Siam Commercial Bank will take your loose coins and give you cash, minus a 2% commision. Just had this done last week. They charge you to count your loose coin? I thought its part of the service banks should provide to the customer. Will they charge me if I bring in to deposit say 1 mil baht in 20's note? I've never seen a coin counting machine in any bank in Thailand.
