Popular Post Thaivisa News
Kamphaeng Phet:- A poor girl student who cannot afford the study cost after she was admitted to a university’s faculty of pharmacy has received overwhelming support from both Thais and foreigners. Khaosod reported that many Thais and foreigners have credited a bank account opened to provide scholarship for Jiraporn Phaksuwan. As of Friday, Khaosod said the bank account has some Bt1.17 million. Jiraporn graduated from the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Organization School. She was accepted by Naresuan University to study in the Pharmacy Faculty. The girl lives with her 86-year-old grandmother and younger brother as her parents have separated and her mother has a new husband. The mother who lives in Roi Et sends her only Bt1,000 a month for the living cost with her grandma and brother. The girl has to work part time as a farmhand to earn enough for the family. After the girl managed to score high enough to be admitted to the faculty, her mother had to borrow Bt20,000 from relatives for her enrollment but the girl looked ahead and saw that the chance is dimmed because she would need about Bt100,000 a year to finish the six-year course. Her story has been published by Khoasod. After the publicity, many kind-hearted people in Thailand and abroad called her to find out about the bank account’s number, Jiraporn said. The mother, Jarinya, said she was grateful to all who helped her daughter. She promised not to touch the scholarship money. The school director, Supachai Sringarm, said the girl asked him to form a committee to monitor the spending from the bank account to make it transparent.

Popular Post oneday
"...the girl asked him to form a committee to monitor the spending from the bank account to make it transparent..." Fantastic story. This girl sounds like she deserves every single baht. The statement above for me is the highlight. Everyone who gets help like this should do the same.

Popular Post starky
I just hope the young girl gets every single baht of it ... good luck to her, and receives no undue pressure from family and relatives to funnel some of the funds into other places. Great story
jcisco
I hope she sets a stellar example and completes her studies and pays the balance forward. As right now she is in a position to receive heavily discounted course fees if she drops the whole payment upfront. That will stretch the funds to cover almost another two three people if you look at it like that. Good luck and may the cash actually serve the purpose it was given. "She promised not to touch the scholarship money." but stepdaddy might Why would you want a picture of the girl? If you really wanted to contribute finding out how to isn't at all difficult and you wouldn't be complaining about it you'd just get on with it.

Sviss Geez
Strange there is a loan scheme which would cover her. Why is it strange and which loan scheme is it that you say exists for students in this situation?
otherstuff1957
Strange there is a loan scheme which would cover her. Usually these student loans involve parents or some other relatives putting up their land as security. If the student doesn't get a well-paying job after graduation these loans can become just another burden on a poor farming family.

Why is it strange and which loan scheme is it that you say exists for students in this situation? http://www.moe.go.th/eloan.htm for high school students and above. This is slightly our of date. there are now two plans One pays University Fees only...available to almost all with few checks. One pays fees and about 3000baht a month living allowance and some extra fees. This requires more payperwork and is only available to lower income families now. Popular Post billd766
The mother is going to "touch" the money... And you personally know this how? Do you know the family or have had anything to do with, or was it a suggestion from the guy on the bar stool next to you? Not ALL Thais are thieves just as not ALL farangs are hansum and honest either. If that is the best post you can make on this subject, don't bother any more. Suradit69
The mother is going to "touch" the money... I wondered how long it would take for someone to turn a good story into rubbish with some Thai bashing, Well done. It speaks volumes about you.
dragonfly94
This sentimental codswallop is all well and good but what about all the other poor kids who can't afford to go, people should be asking why not.
