Kitchen/Furniture Contractor?

You might stop by a few of the home improvement stores here. I've heard of members having their places renovated by contractors they've recommended. Boonthavorn has some great displays. Worth a peek if nothing else. A few of the Home Marts have some nice mock ups also. The one on Suk (I think it's near South Pattaya road, but not 100% sure) had some nice mockups a few years ago. The new Hardware House in Ban Amphur also has some nice mockups.

Even though many of us think the Thai economy is slowing (and it surely is), the contractors I've used in the past all say they are super busy. We've got a small job and are having to wait quite some time for them to become available.

I've just had mine done by this company........

http://planetkitchen.net/index.html

Very professional - couldn't be happier. After care good also - one call to Kieran (the boss) and any problems are resolved promptly.

I can second Index. Although I don't now live in Pattaya I used them for my new kitchen where I now live.

Good in house design team once deposit paid was given a date for supply & fixing.

They were on time/date did a top job.

N/B they didn't have to do any water fitments as have a utility room, Completed the full installation in under 6 hours.

Not had any problems so cant comment on after care.

Has any Thaivisa member dealt with these companies?

any opinion?

1. Alpha Design and Construction. http://alphathai.com/

2. Euro Design. http://www.euro-design-furniture.com/

3. Eastern Furniture and Design . http://www.efidfurniture.com/index.php

My friend used Euro Design. Not cheap, but when problems cropped up, as they always do, they fixed them with no questions asked.

Is this in a condo, how much are you looking to spend?

Yes, in a condo. Large condo, but very small kitchen. L-shaped total length maybe 4 meters only. I used to work with a big local company, but they are too busy and I need this done reasonably fast after water damage. Good moment to redo all. :-) MS>

Thank you kindly. I have done several big projects with EURODESIGN, was very pleased always. But they are very busy and I don't want to bother them with a small 150'000 Baht job. I need this done asap. I think I will have a Thai dismantle the old kitchen, prepare water & electric and hopefully get one of the above Thai recommendations to fit a a modern, bright kitchen.THX> again for taking the time to post. Wow, you must have gotten a great deal. Sure, prices have gone up quite a bit. You still have the name/number of your contractor. Might have few jobs for him. Thanks MS>

"Moonseeker" - that's easy; just contact your friend 007 and all will be well . . . . . (PS: The glass is 1/2-Full !).

I always a chuckle when reading some of these replies, oh you paid too much, can get it done for half that price, when in fact the work was done by the friend of the Thai wife's uncle. The first thing in kitchen cabinetry is your standard and specification requirements. Machine, premade vs semi-custom vs custom; solid wood vs plywood vs particleboard for frame, solid wood vs veneer exterior, etc. The primary costs is material, labor and installation secondary. Siam Wood Design custom designed and built my cabinets and I am 100% happy.

As Stated have moved out of Pattaya after an 8+ year stint, now live half way between BKK & Chang Mai.

I used local builder to do all the work on the rooms.

The cabinets were supplied/Fitted by Index 'their top range' had to be good or they wouldn't have been able to take the weight of the granite.

Local S/S company made the free standing island, granite by the BKK granite Co located in Tak.

Only problem was working out how to get the under cabinet light defuser as they didn't seem to do what I wanted anywhere. Sorted that with the aid of the S/S man who made them out of S/S. Must say they look rather nice as the doors are black S/S handles also matched the extractor.

For anyone that thinks I'm bull Shi##ing on quality price maybe you should try calling in if you ever pass and I'll show you the bills and the work done.

Only problem I've had is the wife has never used it for cooking have had to fit another Thai kitchen, has had it's benefits the western one still looks like new.

Fully agreed. In my experience a high quality kitchen, custom-designed & -built, costs about 20-25K per meter, not including appliances. Of the rack in good quality might be a bit cheaper. MS>
