NIDA Poll: Industrial sector expects economy to stabilize in latter half of 2015

BANGKOK, 26 May 2015, (NNT) - The latest survey from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) has indicated that the industrial sector expects the economy to stabilize in the latter half of this year.

The survey said 50.68 percent of its 1,251 respondents expected stabilization, while 23.42 percent expected the economy during this period to worsen, and 22.06 percent to improve.

When asked what factors affect the industrial sector, 50.92 percent of operators said the local economy, 37.49 percent said the global economy, and 24.70 percent the fuel price.

More than 28.38 percent of the respondents said the optimum value of the baht should be 31-32 baht to the US dollar, while 21.42 percent said the value should be less than 31 baht to the dollar.

Meanwhile, business operators suggested that the government reconsider the minimum wage hike, saying it would greatly affect production overhead. The sector said the administration should also look into the high price of raw imports, while giving financial aid to the small and medium-sized enterprises.

Respondents wanted the government to promote more investment and domestic tourism, while keeping the peace in order to create a favorable economic atmosphere.
