Worse traffic expected in northern Bangkok in the next two months with two flyovers to be demolished

BANGKOK: -- Motorists and bus commuters in northern Bangkok are warned to brace for worse traffic congestion in the next two months when the Ratchayothin flyover and then the Kasetsart flyover will be demolished successively to pave way for the construction of the Green Line rail system from Mor Chit through Saphan Mai to Khu Kot.

Traffic police commander Pol Maj-Gen Abhisit Muangkasem said Wednesday that representatives of Italian Thai Development company, the constructor of the rail line, met with him last week to discuss the planned construction and its impacts on traffic in and around the area.

He said he suggested the company to work out traffic plan for his consideration.

Since Ratchadapisek and Paholyothin roads are two main arteries in the northern zone of Bangkok, any construction which will require partial closure of the roads to remove utilities system, proper traffic management is necessary to cause the least inconveniences to motorists and bus commuters, said the traffic police commander.

Traffic lights will have to be installed at road intersections where the flyover is to be demolished and in-bound and out-bound traffic spaces will have to be rearranged too, he added.

So this rail system is designed to ease the insane traffic problems.

So to build it they are taking away two fly overs at major junctions.

Good luck reaching those two junctions on the way to work. Time to start leaving at 11pm the night before.

Yeah, I'm a completely lazy bastard like Morakot. Can some one open Google and search for Ratchadapisek and provide a link please.

Ratchadapisek Rd is about 8 miles long. Which flyover would this be? Ratchadapisek and Paholyothin Roads crossing what road? Vipavadi-Rangsit Road?

Are you always so hard on yourself and routinely deploy expletives when communicating with other human beings? sad.png

Would they not complete the rest of the elevated railway first, then when it's almost completed, knockdown the overpasses and do those sections.

Perhaps that's thinking too much?

do you mean there they will build an elevated railway along Pahoyothin road ? because there is another flyover, just were we

drive out to our school,

or Uturn back to Ratchada ?

than that all will get immpossible to drive !!

Kaset

I thought there was an UNDERPASS at Kaset junction - been there for about 7-8 years AFAICR. Goes from Ngam Wong Wan Road to Kaset-Nawamin.

Where's the over pass? Unless they mean the one that starts just before soi Sena, Phanonyothin 32?

If so, that will be a nightmare ...

The Elevated Railway (BTS GReen Line) will continue from Morchit station, right up along Pahonyothin until it almost meets Viphawadee again at the big round military monument/museum (past the airport), and from there take a sharp right out to Lamlukka.

The over pass goes over the same junction on phaholyothin rd, from the Army Regiment 11 base towards Central Lad Phrao. It's a metal monstrosity.

So why remove it now and not when the rest of the elevated system is pretty much finished?

There's a bout a 15km stretch all the way past Saphan Mai and up to Sai Mai that work hasn't even begun on yet.
