A serious question about Thai culture

Featured Replies

Dear TV Members:

I have always been adamant about the unfairness of "stupidity" and "laziness" claims from expats/foreigners regarding Thai people, but then I spoke with a corporate English teacher who has been in The Kingdom for 8 years yesterday, and this is the first thing he said to me, without missing a beat:

"They lack common sense and are lazy."

I grilled him on this for at least 5 mins, but he maintained his position without hesitation.

So, am I just naive because I don't spend a lot of time in close quarters with Thai people? Is there anyone who can provide me with an objective, considered, and respectful viewpoint?

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd hazard a guess that around 1 in 5 aren't. However, I've experienced the norm to be as he said it is.

Almost everything is on par with what one might expect of a spoiled five year old child.

Once you expect nothing more, it's quite a blast living here. thumbsup.gif

The opinion of a long term English teacher in the Kingdom is hardly credible testimony. If you could speak some Thai, you'll know that most Thais are really not much different than farangs in terms of intelligence or work ethic. But you'll find that Thai-bashing threads such as this will bring out some not-so-objective opinions from the haters.

Obvious where this is leading.
