Humidity In My Home Is Ruining Everything?

This is a new one on me. I have recently moved to a place i love dearly but the humitity is unbelievable inside the home. I am right by a running creek and in the hills and i have never seen moisture like this in a home before. Great for my skin and hair but even the dry clothes are getting damp. I went to price de humidifiers...21,000.00 bt is the going rate, way to steep for my price range. What i am wondering is if there are any tricks to use, keeping an evaportive cooler unit going, fans dont seem to work. Or if there is some old school remedy im unaware of. Is it better to put all my clothes in airtight containers....or leave them in the closet? I am very new to this...humitity outside yes...but in the home where mold is growing....ive never dealth with. Please..any suggestions as weird as they may sound would be appreciated.

A dehumidifier is worth every Baht. Otherwise get a closet warmer (tubular heater) from Zee Zee Interiors in Chern Talay. A small one is about 2300 Baht, keeps the closet warm while not allowing mold to grow. You will need an electrical outlet in or near your closet.

For your drawers, get dehumidifying crystals at Tops in Central. They come in a small plastic container with crystals in the top half. You take the foil off the top, stick the container in the drawer and somehow the extra moisture ends up as water in the bottom half of the container....it's called " Farcent" and lasts about a month. Get the one with rain drops on it otherwise you'll just end up with air freshener.

We live right by the beach and have ended up mold-free after investing in a dehumidifier and a closet warmer as well as using the crystals.

Good luck Sunshine.

McChuch....

You are an absolute lifesaver, thank you so much. I was hoping they had something of that nature. I would not mind investing in the dehumidifier but am still deciding if this is a very long term living arraingment. Would be wonderful if they had them second hand. I can pick them up on the internet for less than 200.00 USD...but that doesnt help in Thailand. Thank you again...and if anyone else has anymore ideas please..let me know.... :o

I seceond the Heater tube form Zee Zee, also the plastic box crystel decanters.

The chrystels are available in Home Pro, Tops, Basement of Central (by the pots amnd pand and plastic ware), and now and then on and off at Watsons.

Do you run an Air-con ever? theat will help dry out some of the air.

I don't know really know where to buy a de-humidifier here.

One place i do know is Suwntuee (SP?) Aircon I'll com back and provide the contact info.

My other guess is. look to the boating industry suppliers for a de-humidifer. I know they got them on ships, but don't know that the cost is.

good luck

and can you post back the rang of pices you get for any de-humidifers you come across. If affordable I may bick one up myself.

Question, I have gone el-cheapo for storing my camera lenses. Have an old small fridge, took the shelves out, and now have my camera in there with Silica gel. These chemical things u said were used for drawers, would they be good for in my fridge ?

I feel the silica gel maybe is not powerful enough.

Yes ok but you have dry them out, they work by collecting moisture but can (will) get saturated :o
