You can't fight the corruption in Phuket, Thailand

A BBC report in their Magazine.

The Thai island of Phuket is a magnet for sun-seeking holiday-makers and, increasingly, for foreigners seeking a comfortable and cost-efficient retirement. More than 100,000 foreigners have settled on the island.

But there can be financial risks for foreign residents.

Colin Vard settled in Phuket and married a Thai woman. He invested on the island and owned eight properties.

But his wife got involved a group of moneylenders and fraudulently sold them. He lost everything.
