Gun was Just a Box, Angry Driver Protests

14450012561445001846l.jpg

BANGKOK A public van driver insisted today he was pointing a small box at another motorist not a gun in a video widely seen since it was uploaded yesterday.

Prachop Tekrathok, 40, told police today he was the man seen in the armed van driver video uploaded to Facebook, but denied having a firearm in the vehicle. A colleague also in the van threatened today to file a libel suit against whoever uploaded the video.

In the clip posted by Facebook user Kittipol Na Ubon, the driver of a Bangkok-Sattahip van opens his window and leans out, appearing to point a gun at the person filming. The scene is quite dark, however.

The video was later widely shared and criticized, with many bloggers reposting it with a similar description.

But Prachop said he was not carrying a gun. He said the incident took place Tuesday evening on a road north of Bangkok in Pathum Thani province. Prachop said he wasnt actually driving at the time, but seated behind another colleague behind the wheel, Somkuan Worasith.

Looks more like a gun than a box to me when I blow up the picture on a big screen.... Send him to jail for awhile, pretending to threaten someone with a weapon is normally the same punishment anyway...

Why am I not surprised at this behavior from a " van driver"? They invariably seem to drive as if they were bit part players in " Death Race 2000"!

Zoom in on the original picture and compare it with the "box picture" Nope, not the same "box". Different size and shape as far as I can tell. Maybe someone with high definition inspection software could do a better job? RTP forensic branch perhaps? Then if it is found to be a firearm, throw the box at him and put him in the Klong Prem box.

Used to, nowadays they're crawling at measly 100km/h on route 7. Before they'd blast away at max speed, which I suppose was about 160. Not sure what happened.

I got a 32km taxi this morning and most of the journey was done at 150kmph.....

Seems like the cctv, fines and police are still no deterrent...

Thais will drive whatever way they want until they start giving out serious punishments,

I would suggest suspending licences for 1-3 years, confiscation of vehicles for no tax or insurance or unlicensed driver etc... And a bit of jail for repeat offenders and drunk drivers

A tea money system will keep things just the way they are... Forever

he is lucky the other driver did not use his "box".

what caliber "box" you guys packin'?

was it a semi auto "box"?

this guy is thinking outside the "box".

ok. Enough.

Never enough. Have you seen "Boxfight at the OK corral". Excellent film. Another good one with Tom Cruise, is "Top Box". (About a cargo pilot who delivers boxes all day for a living, then get shipwrecked on an island, and dreams of being a fighter pilot... of all things!) Think Hanks would have been better in the role.... but that's just my opinion.
