Min of Public Health calls on related agencies to maintain water quality

BANGKOK, 10 November 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has urged related agencies to ensure that tap water production adheres to international standards for water quality, as a safeguard against waterborne diseases.

Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn explained that the World Health Organization sets international standards for chlorine levels in water at 0.2 - 0.5 milligrams per liter, to sterilize most microorganisms found in water.

Dr. Piyasakol has reiterated to public health offices and tambon health promotion hospitals across Thailand to inspect chlorine levels in their tap water.

Water quality is important to limiting the spread of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, and typhoid.

Obviously haven't seen the water supply around here - they haven't even got around to filtering out the lumps, never mind maintaining a level of chlorine.

Quite seriously, our water is often the colour of weak tea or worse. If we used unfiltered water for laundry, it'd stain the clothes. I've even found tiny red worms when cleaning the shower filters.

I do not trust water in thailand, especially that in Phuket. I have asked several Pharmacists whether the water is safe to drink and they have said a resounding "definitely not".

I live here in Thailand.
