Are living wills legal in Thailand. If your in a coma or have dementia somebody must take control of your affairs.I have heard of a man in a coma for a long time, but his wife can't access his finances to pay the hospital. What about Power of Attorney. The legal eagle on this forum seems to be taking a break,so i am throwing it out there to bush lawyers.

Living wills are now legal. However it seems most of the private hospitals all have their own specific form they want signed.

Powers of attorney exist as well but best to consult a lawyer in drawing one up. That is for financial matters, no such thing as a health care POA here AFAIK. In practice Thai doctors and hospitals will give considerable weight to the sentiments expressed by immediate family -- more, in fact, than they will give to a living will. (This is actually true in the West as well, laws to the contrary notwithstanding. Dead people can't sue, but their surviving relatives can.) So make sure your spouse understands and is on board with your wishes, or the will may not do much good.

Simpler approach for financial matters for those married would be to ensure your assets are in a joint account to begin with and take time to familiarize your spouse with your affairs. (If you don't trust her for that now, how would you trust her for when you are incapacitated?)
