PHUKET: -- More than 30 vendors gathered at Provincial Hall this morning (Dec 3) to protest a plan to auction leases for buildings at Nai Harn lake, Klong Pakbang and Karon View Point.

Led by Apisit Khanpakdee, the group carried signs saying they would rather pay higher rental fees than lose their pitch sites.

Vice Governor Chokdee Armornwat was presented to hear the vendors’ complaint.

Karon Municipality announced on November 26 they wanted to lease out 12 ground-floor units and six second-floor units of a two-storey building at Karon View Point, as well as auction the rights to operate two restrooms at Nai Harn lake and a food centre located at Klong Pakbang.

The auction is to be held on December 14.

"...as well as auction the rights to operate two restrooms at Nai Harn lake..."!

No doubt this will be a serious business venture. Be interesting to see the bidding process.

30 people gathered, to make a protest, hmmmm.

I thought it was no more then 4 people allowed to gather together?

Only 5 or more in a political gathering. Still haven't seen what the junta definition of a political gathering is. One could surmise from the news articles that if there are 5 or more against the junta, then they will be arrested. If you have 4 or less, no issues with anything. If you have 5 or more protesting anyone but the junta, you are good to go.
