snoop1130
Officer in Police Special Branch leaked letter of Russian warning The Nation BANGKOK -- NATIONAL police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda revealed Friday that an initial probe had found that a policeman in the "Santibal" Special Branch leaked the agency's copy of a Russian warning that said 10 Syrians possibly linked to the Islamic State group entered Thailand in late October. Chakthip said that as the probe had been completed, the Santibal was looking to conclude the case for further action. The Special Branch, which deals with national-security issues, circulated the document to other police units but the document found its way to Thai social media. It urged that security be intensified around "target areas that Russian authorities are concerned about" including venues associated with allies that have taken part in attacks on Islamic State in Syria. The leaking of the document brought public attention to four Syrian men whose photographs were widely shared on the Internet, but they were later cleared by police of possible links to Islamic State. Police said the men were found to have overstayed their visas or were waiting to extend their visa. One of the men reportedly filed libel charges against the person who leaked his passport photo and information to social media. worgeordie
Secrets that effect tourism need to be kept,I don't think these 4 Syrians are any part of the 10 that are linked with ISSL,so where are those 10?,most likely never entered on Syrian passports. regards worgeordie
londonthai
if that was a special branch officer, and not from the other police departments, it might mean, that the leak was intentional, delibarate action from the spooks. most probably measured against russia. the leak allowed the isis terrorists to fly, before being caught - instead police staged a farce with overstayers Edited December 12, 2015 by londonthai
rkidlad
Didn't 'anonymous' recently hack the police division's websites and files and said "how do you expect these people to keep you safe when they have passwords like '12345'?
londonthai
on a related topic, which makes the russian warning to thailand more grounded: Islamic State can make fake Syrian passports: U.S. report http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-usa-passports-idUSKBN0TV02820151212#iSZpmrUkU5ksvJXA.97 there is a likelihood that the thai immigration and thai consulate in damascus weren't aware of it. there are still some 15 syrian passport holders who entered thailand in october and whose visas would expire at the end of month. That's on them should be investigation done, not the other ones
razer
Thank you to the Special Branch police officer who leaked the information. To keep the public safe, the public needs to know. Public vigilance is the key to offset possible terrorist attacks.
FredNL
In Turkey you can buy any passport you want. They had a Syrian made for the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte under the name of Marek Ramadan. Also Syrians were arrested in South America with fake Greek passports. Last week "Greeks" were found bicycling on the A10 Motorway. Normally they only find Syrians bicycling on the Dutch Highways.
