PHUKET: -- Rescue workers last night caught a 5-meter-long python at the Phuket Villa 5 housing estate, near Kajonkietsuksa School in Wichit.

"We received a report from security guards at Villa 5 that a big python was moving around the streets in the estate," said Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation Chief Saiyan Thamaphan.

It took rescue workers only five minutes to bag the 50-kilogram snake, as it was still lounging in the middle of the street when they arrived.

"We receive calls almost every day to catch dangerous animals. We are glad to see people reporting them to us, rather than taking it upon themselves to capture them," Mr Saiyan said.

I have been living in Phuket for 13 years now, always aware of snakes and other critters but never ones this size until the past month. Now two huge (5-6 m) pythons in a month. Glad that the snake catchers are continuing their excellent work and releasing these beautiful snakes back into the wild.

In parts of the Hollywood hills in Los Angeles, you can not let your small dog or cat outside as coyotes (species of wild dog) rule, especially at night. They have simply adapted to the available food supply and are thriving.

I'm sure they like to eat the rats that are about the housing compounds.

Wouldn't mind keeping one of these as a pet around my place........this one a super looking snake, hope they did actually release it somewhere.
