PM Revokes Rule to Collect Service Passports

Featured Replies

Khmer Time/ Ven Rathavong

Prime Minister Hun Sen overturned the Interior Ministry’s decision to require all public servants to relinquish their service passports after returning from missions abroad on Monday evening. In a statement, the premier announced that all public servants will be allowed to keep their service passports regardless of whether they are authorized to use them or not, despite recent reports of public servants using their credentials incorrectly.

In the last month allegations have arisen of officials selling their travel documents to migrant workers or using them to work overseas themselves without visas. Mr. Hun Sen said the allegations affect the reputation of the government and Cambodia as a whole, and urged officials to use their passports in the appropriate manner.
