Some of the Cambodian vendors selling counterfeit products at the Rong Kluea Market in Sakaeo province in Thailand have been reportedly moving their products to Cambodia despite reassurances from the Cambodian Foreign Affairs Ministry that they would be allowed to sell the rest of their goods until the end of April, according Adhoc’s Banteay Meanchey provincial coordinator.

“Some of them have to bring their goods into Cambodia out of ‘their own fear’ despite the fact that there is no official decree from the Thai side,” said Soum Chankea, Adhoc’s Banteay Meanchey provincial coordinator. “Both sides are creating an association of vendors to deal with the issues.”

On March 5, the Foreign Affairs Ministry released a letter following meetings with Thai government officials. The talks were held after Thai police confiscated counterfeit goods worth nearly 10 million baht from Cambodian vendors at the market, which is located right across the border from Banteay Meanchey province. “The Thai authorities will not implement the clearance of [fake] copyright goods in Sakaeo province until the end of April 2016,” the letter read.
