BANGKOK: -- The Broadcasting Commission expects it will be able to stage a fresh auction for the 900 Mhz 4G spectrum license forfeited from JAS Mobile in June following a public hearing to gauge public opinions about the new bid and related issues.

The commission also agreed to confiscated the 644 million baht in guarantee money put up by JAS when it took part in the first auction that it won but defaulted in the payment of the first installment within the deadline on Monday.

Mr Takorn Tanthasith, secretary-general of National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said the Broadcasting Commission, at its meeting on Wednesday, agreed to form a panel to assess the damages caused by JAS’s failure to fulfill its installment payment obligation.

Although it was agreed initially that the starting price of the fresh bid would be the last bidding price of JAS which was 75.6 billion baht, Takorn said that the last bidding prices of the other bidders namely True Move H, DTAC and AIS would be taken into consideration in the public hearing.

The amount of guarantee money to be put up by the bidders in the fresh auction is yet to be determined.

The NBTC will issue an invitation for interested parties to join the bidding and this process will take about three weeks after which an auction will be staged probably in end of June.

In case there are no parties joining the bidding, auction for the spectrum will be suspended for a year and the Broadcasting Commission to review the starting bidding price.

As for JAS Mobile’s claim that its failure to come up with the first installment of license fee stemmed from its Chinese partner’s failure to obtain loan from its creditor bank in time.

Mr Takorn said that Jas had never notified the NBTC about the problem before and he didn’t know whether this was unusual or not.

The interpretor says "Right On!"

The most important thing:

"The commission agreed to confiscated the 644 million baht in guarantee money put up by JAS when it took part in the first auction that it won but defaulted in the payment of the first installment within the deadline on Monday."

Showing their pure greed.... " the starting price of the fresh bid would be the last bidding price of JAS which was 75.6 billion baht,"

Normally in cases like this, the last lower bid would by default be the new winner... but, hey they want some more money.... clap2.gif

Nevermind the cost of a new auction

What a joke these people are.......how much goes into their accounts!

It would nice of they would allocate 902 MHz to 928 MHz scientific study, product development and use by

hobbyists, but will never happen. Some western countries do this.

My mobile phone battery just died. What should I do, and no coffee today. Its the end of the world. Take the money and run.

There will be another company coming to pony up to the bar. Always is, always will be. Maybe Red Bull phone company.
