Student Sentenced for Sexual Assault

A high school student was sentenced to four years in prison by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in Prek Phnov district’s Korkrokar commune last year, according to officials.

Twenty-two-year-old Korg Rath was charged with “indecent assault with aggravating circumstances” under articles 246 and 248 of the penal code.

Presiding Judge Bun Thy ordered him to pay 5 million riel [about $1,250] in compensation to the victim’s family and 4 million (about $1,000) to the state in addition to serving his prison term.
